Job Overview: The consultant will work within the Private Fundraising and Partnerships Division (PFP) of UNICEF, based in Geneva, Switzerland. The primary responsibility is to support the engagement of National Committees with volunteers, which includes analyzing their current volunteer engagement practices, identifying best practices, gaps, and areas for improvement. The consultant will utilize existing data from the Global Volunteer Initiative and conduct desk research, along with limited interactions with volunteer focal points from National Committees. The goal is to provide actionable insights and recommendations for enhancing volunteer engagement across UNICEF's National Committees, ensuring alignment with UNICEF's policies and strategies while considering resource limitations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct a comprehensive mapping of volunteers engaged by National Committees, including an overview of their engagement practices, governance structures, and areas of work.
Analyze existing policies and procedures related to volunteer engagement within National Committees.
Facilitate discussions with National Committees to identify best practices and areas needing support.
Develop an options paper outlining potential support mechanisms for National Committees in volunteer engagement, including a 'minimum viable product' approach.
Deliver a first draft of the mapping by March 2026, with final validation by June 202
Complete the analysis and recommendations by September 2026, followed by a presentation to the PFP team by November 2026.
Required Qualifications:
An advanced university degree (master’s or higher) in Social Science, Research, Monitoring and Evaluation, Operations Management, Corporate Governance, Business Administration, or related fields. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (Bachelor's degree or higher) with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted.
A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in non-profit management is required, with specific experience in volunteer engagement being an asset.
Familiarity with the operations of National Committees for UNICEF is advantageous.
Strong research, organizational, strategic, and analytical skills are essential.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders while adhering to established policies and procedures.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s or higher) in relevant fields such as Social Science, Research, Monitoring and Evaluation, Operations Management, Corporate Governance, or Business Administration. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (Bachelor's degree or higher) combined with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience, particularly in the management of non-profit organizations. Experience specifically related to volunteer engagement with civil society organizations is highly desirable. Additionally, candidates should have experience working in high-income countries and familiarity with the operations of National Committees for UNICEF is considered an asset.
Languages: Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is mandatory. Knowledge of an additional UN language is desirable and would enhance the candidate's profile.
Additional Notes: The consultancy is expected to be conducted remotely, with no in-person visits required. Payment will be contingent upon the satisfactory completion of deliverables, and UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment if performance is unsatisfactory. All materials developed during the consultancy will remain the copyright of UNICEF. Candidates must ensure they have valid visa and health insurance for the duration of the contract. Selected candidates will be required to confirm their fully vaccinated status against COVID-19, although this requirement does not apply to those working remotely.
