Job Description
Job Posting Organization: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is a global organization that operates in 170 countries and territories with the mission to eradicate poverty while protecting the planet. Established to help countries develop strong policies, skills, partnerships, and institutions, UNDP aims to sustain progress in various developmental areas. The organization focuses on empowering marginalized communities and promoting sustainable development through various programs, including the Inclusive Value Chains Programme, which has been successfully implemented in 15 countries across Latin America and Eastern Europe.
Job Overview: The position of Online Volunteer for Commercial Image Enhancement is designed to support the UNDP Lao PDR in improving the commercial visuals of small businesses owned by locals. This role is crucial as it directly contributes to enhancing the branding and market readiness of these businesses, particularly those owned by individuals from marginalized identities such as women and persons with disabilities (PWDs). Volunteers will work closely with beneficiary businesses to understand their unique challenges and needs, and will be responsible for designing and developing various commercial image materials that will help these businesses improve their visibility and competitiveness in the market.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Online Volunteers will engage with assigned beneficiary businesses to gather insights about their backgrounds, including their target audiences, brand priorities, and market access challenges. They will collaborate with business advisors to identify specific commercial image needs and will be tasked with designing and developing 2 to 4 commercial image materials for each business. These materials may include logos, company profiles, product packaging, product catalogues, business cards, and other visual assets, all tailored to the agreed priorities of the businesses. The role requires creativity, effective communication, and the ability to work independently while adhering to the guidance provided by the UNDP team.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess a strong background in graphic design, marketing, or a related field. Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) is essential. Additionally, candidates should have a good understanding of branding principles and experience in creating commercial visuals that resonate with target audiences. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders are also important for this role.
Educational Background: A degree in graphic design, marketing, communications, or a related field is preferred. However, equivalent experience in the relevant areas may also be considered. Candidates should demonstrate a portfolio of previous work that showcases their design capabilities and understanding of branding.
Experience: While specific years of experience may not be mandated, candidates should have demonstrable experience in graphic design or a related field. Previous experience working with small businesses or in a development context is a plus, as it will provide valuable insights into the challenges faced by the beneficiary businesses.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all communications and materials will be developed in this language. Knowledge of Lao or other local languages would be advantageous but is not required.
Additional Notes: This position is a volunteer role and may be conducted remotely. The duration of the engagement is flexible, depending on the needs of the businesses and the availability of the volunteers. The role is part-time and offers an opportunity to gain valuable experience while contributing to the sustainable development goals of the UNDP.
