Solidarités International (SI) is an international humanitarian aid association that has been operational for over 40 years. Job Overview:
The primary objective of the Missions position is to support and coordinate Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) activity interventions in the eastern part of Sudan, specifically in Gedaref, Khartoum, and Al Jazeera states. The role involves close collaboration with the WASH team at the bases, field coordinators, and national partner organizations. The individual in this position will supervise operational teams assigned to WASH activities and ensure that these activities are well-coordinated and yield quality results. The role also requires proposing adjustments or developments to the WASH activities to maintain their relevance. The position faces challenges such as complicated visa issuance, low funding leading to understaffed teams, and heavy administrative impediments that can delay activities. The first two to three months will focus on implementing and scaling up WASH projects, updating project follow-up tools, and supporting the capacity-building efforts of national staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Missions position include:
  • Coordinating and supervising WASH activities in the designated regions, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and standards.
  • Collaborating with local partners and stakeholders to enhance the effectiveness of WASH interventions.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the progress of WASH projects, making necessary adjustments to improve outcomes.
  • Providing technical support and guidance to operational teams in the field.
  • Ensuring compliance with humanitarian principles and SI policies in all activities.
  • Reporting on project progress and challenges to the line manager and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Participating in coordination meetings with other humanitarian actors to share information and best practices.
  • Supporting the capacity building of national staff through training and mentorship.
  • Addressing any security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security concerns related to the implementation of WASH activities in the region.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Missions position include:
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field such as Engineering, Public Health, or Humanitarian Studies.
  • A minimum of 3 to 4 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with at least 0 to 2 years in a similar position.
  • Strong technical skills in emergency WASH response, including design and supervision of WASH infrastructure.
  • Proven experience in managing budgets and project cycles effectively.
  • Excellent reporting skills and the ability to take initiative in coordinating with other WASH actors and local partners.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field, such as Engineering, Public Health, or a related humanitarian discipline. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively manage WASH interventions in challenging environments.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have 3 to 4 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with a specific focus on emergency WASH response. Candidates should have at least 0 to 2 years of experience in a similar role, demonstrating their ability to manage WASH projects and coordinate with various stakeholders in a humanitarian context.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and with international partners. Proficiency in Arabic is considered an asset, as it will facilitate communication with local staff and communities in Sudan.

  • The role is based in Gedaref, Sudan, which is a small city with limited leisure options and a curfew imposed by local authorities. The salary for this position starts from EUR 2,510 gross per month, which includes a base salary and an annual leave allowance. Additionally, a monthly per diem of USD 750 is provided, along with coverage for accommodation and travel expenses. The organization also offers a break system, allowing for time off every three months, and provides a comprehensive insurance package for expatriates.
