UNFPA has been operational in Bangladesh since 1974, focusing on three transformative results: ending unmet need for family planning, preventing maternal deaths, and eliminating gender-based violence and harmful practices. The organization is currently implementing its 10th Country Programme (2022-2026) in Bangladesh, with its main office located in Dhaka and a sub-office in Cox’s Bazar to coordinate humanitarian efforts in response to the Rohingya refugee crisis. Job Overview: The UNV-Programme Analyst will be stationed at the UNFPA Sub-Office in Cox’s Bazar, working under the supervision of the Head of Sub-Office and the humanitarian coordinator. This role involves providing timely analysis, supporting resource mobilization efforts, and coordinating humanitarian responses. The UNV will engage with various thematic team leads to ensure compliance and effective management of funds across different units. The position requires collaboration with the International Operations Manager and other program staff to support UNFPA’s interventions in sexual and reproductive health, gender-based violence, and adolescent empowerment within refugee camps and host communities. The UNV will also participate in inter-agency meetings and contribute to the development of humanitarian action plans and proposals, ensuring that UNFPA's mandate is integrated into all activities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The UNV-Programme Analyst will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including: providing coordination support for UNFPA’s humanitarian activities in Cox’s Bazar; participating in assessments and program planning; coordinating joint monitoring visits; supporting the development of Humanitarian Action Overviews and Minimum Preparedness Actions; advocating for the inclusion of ICPD Programme of Action in emergency responses; assisting in the development of funding proposals and donor reports; ensuring compliance with environmental and social safeguard requirements; organizing fund management meetings; collaborating with the M&E team; conducting field visits to assess needs; supporting resource mobilization and partnership development; drafting communication materials; and facilitating donor visits and missions.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to UNFPA’s mission. They should demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in a dynamic environment, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams. A strong understanding of humanitarian principles and experience in program management or coordination in a humanitarian context are essential. Familiarity with resource mobilization and donor relations is also required, along with the ability to advocate effectively for UNFPA’s mandate.
Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree in social sciences, public health, international relations, or a related field is required. A master’s degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may enhance the candidate's competitiveness for the position.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in program management, coordination, or humanitarian response. Experience working with UN agencies or international organizations in a similar context is highly desirable. Familiarity with the challenges and dynamics of working in a humanitarian setting, particularly in relation to sexual and reproductive health and gender-based violence, is crucial.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Bengali or other local languages is an asset and may facilitate better communication within the community and with local stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is classified as a family duty station, and UN International staff are expected to reside in areas approved by the United Nations Department of Safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security (UNDSS). The living conditions in Cox’s Bazar are generally safe, with a well-developed communication system and transportation options. The office is located in a refurbished hotel, and staff members have access to a paid shuttle service for commuting. Housing options typically include 1-2 bedroom flats, with rental prices ranging from 50,000 to 150,000 BDT (approximately 400 to 1,300 USD) per month.
