Job Overview:
The Research Assistant position within the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Division at Human Rights Watch is designed to provide essential research and administrative support to the North Africa team, specifically focusing on Tunisia and Libya. The role is full-time and based in HRW's Tunis office, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and communication within the team and with external stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Research Assistant will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to: providing research, advocacy, and administrative assistance to the Tunisia and Libya teams; maintaining effective communication and relationships with staff and external stakeholders; conducting in-person and remote interviews for various projects; drafting and preparing documents and materials; organizing logistics for research trips and projects; actively monitoring developments in Tunisia and Libya and providing summaries; translating materials as needed; collaborating with country researchers and the MENA deputy director to identify opportunities and contribute to divisional strategies; performing administrative tasks as required; and carrying out other duties as assigned. This comprehensive set of responsibilities underscores the importance of the Research Assistant's role in supporting the organization's mission and objectives in the region.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in fields such as human rights, international relations, law, social science, or a related area. Additionally, a minimum of one year of relevant work experience is required, with previous experience related to Tunisia, Libya, and human rights being highly desirable. The ideal candidate will demonstrate fluency in English, with excellent oral and written communication skills in both Arabic and French. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for effective collaboration within the team and with external partners. The ability to self-motivate, prioritize tasks under pressure, and work efficiently is crucial, as is the capacity to work independently and as part of a global team. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail are also required, along with a deep interest in the Middle East and North Africa and human rights issues.

Educational Background:
