Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is located within the Department of Peace Operations (DPO), specifically in the Office of Rule of Law and Security Institutions (OROLSI), Justice and Corrections Service (JCS). The intern will engage in a variety of tasks aimed at supporting the DPO's mission to provide political and executive direction to UN peacekeeping operations. The role is designed to enhance the intern's understanding of justice and corrections within the context of peace operations, while also contributing to the development of strategic communication and public outreach initiatives. The internship is expected to last a minimum of three months, with the possibility of extension, and offers a flexible working arrangement that can be adjusted to accommodate the intern's needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a range of duties including assisting the Justice and Corrections Service with strategic communication and public outreach related to rule of law and security institutions. This includes developing and designing communications and multimedia products for various platforms, drafting and editing publications, creating data visualizations, and conducting research for social media content. The intern will also monitor and analyze social media statistics and web analytics, and perform any additional duties as requested by the supervisor. This role requires strong communication skills, teamwork, and client orientation to effectively engage with various stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants should also possess good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be pursuing or have completed a degree at the bachelor’s, master’s, or Ph.D. level. This educational background should ideally be in a field related to justice, law, international relations, or a similar discipline that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship.

Experience:
While prior professional work experience is not mandatory for this internship, candidates should demonstrate relevant academic knowledge and skills that pertain to the tasks they will be undertaking. This includes familiarity with communication strategies, public outreach, and the workings of international organizations, particularly in the context of peacekeeping and rule of law.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an advantage and may enhance the candidate's application.
