Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position within the Rule of Law Unit in the Executive Office of the Secretary-General is designed for motivated individuals who are eager to support the UN's mission in promoting the rule of law and human rights. Interns will work closely with full-time professional staff and will be involved in various tasks that contribute to the preparation and execution of senior-level management meetings, conferences, and retreats. The role requires a proactive approach to research and analysis, particularly in tracking and analyzing decisions related to rule of law issues. Interns will also assist in the preparation of speeches, meeting materials, and reports, thereby gaining valuable insights into the workings of the UN and the complexities of international law and human rights.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks including: supporting the preparation of senior-level management meetings, conferences, and retreats; assisting in the preparation of background and option papers focused on rule of law issues; tracking and analyzing decisions and their implementation; preparing speeches, talking points, and meeting materials; taking notes and summarizing meetings; monitoring and analyzing global trends in rule of law and human rights; preparing reports, papers, and correspondences; and producing weekly reports on pertinent developments in the areas of rule of law and human rights.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent or higher such as a Master's degree or Ph.D.); or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent). While no prior work experience is required, applicants should possess skills and knowledge in areas such as rule of law, human rights, international affairs, and gender equality. Attention to detail and a passion for leadership support are also desirable traits.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a strong academic background, either in a graduate program or in the final year of their undergraduate studies. Relevant fields of study include law, international relations, human rights, and public policy. A Master's degree or higher is preferred, but not mandatory for applicants who are nearing completion of their Bachelor's degree.

Experience:
No prior work experience is required for this internship position. However, any relevant training, coursework, or skills that align with the UN's mission and the specific duties of the internship will be beneficial. Candidates with interests or experiences in rule of law, human rights, and international affairs will be particularly well-suited for this role.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is also advantageous, as it is the other working language of the UN. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered a plus, but is not mandatory.

This internship is expected to last for a duration of three months and is an in-person position based in New York City.
