Job Overview:
The Programme Management Intern position is designed to provide support for the implementation of gender parity strategies within UN Peacekeeping Operations. The internship is structured to last for a period of 5-6 months, during which the intern will engage in various activities aimed at enhancing the participation of women in uniformed roles. The intern will be involved in coordinating a network for uniformed women peacekeepers, facilitating peer exchanges, and organizing online events and webinars. This role is crucial for fostering an inclusive environment and ensuring that gender parity is prioritized in peacekeeping efforts. The intern will work closely with the Office for Coordination and Shared Services in the Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations, contributing to the UN's broader mission of promoting peace and security through inclusive political solutions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support the implementation of gender parity strategies for uniformed personnel in UN Peacekeeping. Key responsibilities include:
  • Supporting the conceptualization, organization, and execution of online and in-person events and meetings related to gender parity.
  • Assisting in drafting, formatting, and editing reports, communication materials, and other written products.
  • Creating and maintaining an online information repository to facilitate access to resources and information.
  • Collecting, analyzing, and visualizing quantitative and qualitative data to inform decision-making.
  • Attending events, meetings, and seminars, providing insights and summaries through meeting notes.
  • Conducting research on various topics relevant to gender parity and synthesizing information for internal use.
  • Implementing activities that support the Office's efforts to advance gender parity strategies, including the Uniformed Gender Parity Strategy and the Gender Parity Action Plan.
  • Performing other duties as required to support the overall objectives of the internship.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in standard office software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel, and possess a strong interest in the work of the United Nations, along with the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be pursuing or have completed a degree in a relevant field such as public policy, project management, political science, information management, public relations, or data analysis. The educational background should align closely with the responsibilities of the internship, ensuring that candidates have the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to contribute effectively to the UN's initiatives.

Experience:
While no prior professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should have relevant coursework or academic projects that demonstrate their understanding of the UN's mission and the specific focus of the internship on gender parity in peacekeeping operations. This could include volunteer work, internships, or academic research related to international relations, gender studies, or peace and security.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations. Knowledge of French is desirable, and familiarity with other official UN languages (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, and Spanish) is considered an asset. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, to fulfill the internship's requirements.

This internship is unpaid, and candidates are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Interns who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents may need to obtain a G-4 visa to undertake the internship.
