ONU Femmes, established on July 2, 2010, by the United Nations General Assembly Resolution A/64/289, is the United Nations entity dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. The organization aims to eliminate discrimination against women and girls, promote women's empowerment, and achieve gender equality as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action, and peace and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security. ONU Femmes emphasizes women's participation in all spheres of society and focuses on key areas such as women's leadership and political participation, women, peace and security, economic empowerment of women, and the elimination of violence against women and girls. The organization works on developing, revising, and implementing gender-sensitive policies, laws, and strategies across all areas of development, making gender equality a central concern in national development planning and budgeting. To achieve its goals, ONU Femmes collaborates with governments, civil society organizations, the private sector, foundations, and sister agencies within the UN system, particularly focusing on the most disadvantaged groups, such as women in West and Central Africa, who face limited access to critical resources due to social, cultural, and economic norms. ONU Femmes aims to enhance women's economic participation by focusing on access to the green economy, promoting and strengthening women's entrepreneurship, and improving women's income security and social protection. The organization advises governments and regional institutions on developing gender-sensitive economic policies and supports capacity building for various stakeholders to advocate for, formulate, and implement these policies.

Job Overview:
The intern will support the Women's Economic Empowerment (WEE) unit of UNW CIV by providing administrative assistance in the operational and financial management of WEE projects. The intern will help in the development of project documents, such as narrative reports, and support the WEE team in organizing workshops, meetings, and events. The role also involves identifying and documenting best practices from the projects and assisting in the development of knowledge products related to the projects. Additionally, the intern will provide support for private sector engagement initiatives and resource mobilization efforts. This position is designed to provide practical experience in project management and gender equality initiatives, contributing to the overall mission of ONU Femmes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Provide administrative support to the operational and financial management of WEE projects.
  • Assist in the development of project documents, including narrative reports.
  • Support the WEE team in organizing workshops, meetings, and events.
  • Identify and document best practices from the projects.
  • Assist in the development of knowledge products related to the projects.
  • Provide support for private sector engagement initiatives.
  • Assist in resource mobilization efforts.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure effective communication and coordination of activities.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should demonstrate the following core values: respect for diversity, integrity, and professionalism. The candidate should also possess fundamental skills such as awareness and sensitivity to gender issues, accountability, creative problem-solving, effective communication, inclusive collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and leadership by example. Functional competencies required include strong analytical skills, coordination abilities, good writing and synthesis skills, a results-oriented mindset, and a good sense of organization and autonomy.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have university studies in one of the following disciplines: project management, international development, social sciences, statistics, or other relevant fields. Candidates should meet one of the following criteria:
  • Be enrolled in a graduate program (master's degree or equivalent, or higher).
  • Be in the final academic year of an undergraduate program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
  • Have obtained a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within two years of graduation.
  • Be enrolled in a professional internship program as part of a study program and undertake the internship as part of the program's requirements.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have relevant experience in administrative support, project management, or related fields. While prior work experience is not mandatory, any internships or volunteer work in gender equality, women's empowerment, or development projects will be considered an asset. The intern should demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to a professional environment.

Languages:
Fluency in French is required, and knowledge of English or another UN language would be considered an asset. Strong communication skills in both written and spoken forms are essential for effective collaboration and reporting.

Additional Notes:
The internship is unpaid, but interns who do not receive financial support from other sources, such as universities or other institutions, will receive a stipend from ONU Femmes to partially cover their basic living expenses during the internship period.
