It is the leading UN agency in the field of migration, working closely with governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental partners. IOM's mission is to promote humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all, which it achieves by advancing the understanding of migration issues, assisting governments in addressing migration challenges, encouraging social and economic development through migration, and upholding the dignity and well-being of migrants, their families, and communities. IOM has developed expertise in addressing national and regional migration issues and collaborates with a wide range of stakeholders, including ASEAN Member States and various governmental and non-governmental institutions in Indonesia. The organization operates in multiple thematic areas, such as counter-trafficking and protection, disaster climate and resilience, immigration and border governance, labor mobility and social inclusion, refugee care and assistance, and resettlement. IOM has also established the Climate Mobility Innovation Lab (CMIL) to link climate change and human mobility, catalyzing policy, financing, and cross-sector collaboration. IOM implements initiatives across Southeast Asia, coordinating activities from Indonesia and working with partners in Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Vietnam.
Job Overview: The Consultant for Project Documentation will play a crucial role in documenting project activities through photography and videography, contributing to project communications at both country and ASEAN levels. The consultant will work under the supervision of the Programme Support Officer for Climate Resilience and will be responsible for producing high-quality visual content that highlights the impact of locally led climate resilience initiatives. This position requires close collaboration with the project team to understand key messages and target audiences, as well as the development of a detailed production plan that includes a shot list and storyboard. The consultant will also be responsible for ensuring that all visuals are representative and respectful of local communities, and that they comply with IOM's branding and visibility guidelines. The role involves pre-production planning, fieldwork to capture visuals, and post-production editing to deliver polished outputs suitable for various platforms. The consultant will also ensure that all materials produced are the property of IOM and comply with ethical media practices.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for the following duties:
Pre-Production & Planning: Liaise with the project team to understand key messages, identify target audiences, and develop a detailed production plan including a shot list and storyboard. Plan travel itineraries and ensure all necessary consent forms are prepared.
Fieldwork & Capture: Travel to project locations to capture high-quality photos and video footage, conduct on-camera interviews, and ensure all visuals are inclusive and respectful.
Post-Production & Editing: Organize and categorize raw materials, deliver outputs in multiple formats, and professionally edit photos and videos to meet IOM standards.
Branding, Visibility, and Acknowledgements: Comply with IOM branding guidelines and ensure all outputs reflect these standards.
Asset Handover: Deliver all source assets and maintain a verified backup until IOM confirms receipt and integrity of files.
Required Qualifications: The consultant must possess a university degree in communication, visual arts, media, internet marketing, political science, human rights, development, or a related field from an accredited institution. An equivalent combination of training and experience in visual storytelling or media production is also acceptable. The consultant should have demonstrated professional experience in filming and photographing, preferably within humanitarian or development contexts, and must provide a portfolio showcasing high-quality work. Familiarity with donor visibility obligations and experience working with UN agencies or INGOs is desirable. Proficiency with professional editing tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut, DaVinci Resolve, and Photoshop is required, along with the ability to deliver content in various formats and aspect ratios.
Educational Background: A university degree in communication, visual arts, media, internet marketing, political science, human rights, development, or a related field from an accredited academic institution is required. Alternatively, an equivalent combination of training and experience in visual storytelling or media production may be accepted.
Experience: The consultant should have demonstrated professional experience in filming and photographing, preferably within humanitarian, development, or social sector contexts. A proven ability to capture high-quality stills and video with clean audio is essential, evidenced through a portfolio. Experience working with UN agencies or INGOs and familiarity with their brand and visibility rules is desirable. The consultant should also have drone capability with valid licenses/permits, if applicable.
Languages: Fluency in English, both verbal and written, is mandatory. Proficiency in local languages relevant to the country of assignment is highly desirable, as it will enhance communication with local communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This consultancy position is expected to be remote, with travel to designated project locations as required. The consultant should indicate which countries they are able to provide services in, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines. The exact duration of engagement, scope of work, and remuneration will be determined separately for each assignment. The consultant is required to submit a technical and financial proposal in English, detailing their profile, methodology, work plan, and previous work samples. The financial proposal should itemize all costs associated with the work package. IOM applies a local United Nations Salary Scale and has a zero-tolerance policy on conduct incompatible with its aims and objectives.
