Job Overview:
The Social Media Intern will work within the Social Media Section of the Communications Campaigns Service, which is part of the Campaigns and Country Operations Division of the Department of Global Communications. This internship is designed to provide practical experience in social media management and communications within a global context. The intern will be expected to engage with various social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, to support the UN's communications efforts. The role involves researching and drafting content, monitoring social media statistics, and assisting in the creation of original content. The intern will also have the opportunity to attend meetings and contribute to special projects, gaining valuable insights into the workings of a major international organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: researching, compiling, drafting, and editing information for social media content; monitoring and analyzing social media statistics; gathering content from special events such as film screenings and concerts; assisting in the creation of original content for various social media platforms; attending meetings as an observer; managing meeting agendas and drafting notes; and assisting with special projects as assigned. The intern is expected to work under tight deadlines and demonstrate creativity and initiative in their contributions.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for this internship, applicants must be enrolled in or have completed a graduate program (second university degree or equivalent) or be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level). While professional work experience is not required, applicants should have a field of study closely related to the internship. Familiarity with software programs such as Canva, Trello, PowerPoint, and Adobe Photoshop is desirable, as is an interest in digital photography. Applicants must also demonstrate proficiency in English and Portuguese, with knowledge of additional UN languages being a plus.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be pursuing or have completed a degree at the bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. level. The educational background should ideally be in a field related to communications, media studies, public relations, or a similar discipline. Proof of enrollment or completion of the relevant degree program must be provided during the application process.

Experience:
While no prior professional experience is required for this internship, candidates should demonstrate relevant academic experience or projects that showcase their skills in social media management, content creation, or communications. Familiarity with digital tools and platforms is essential, and any experience in related internships or volunteer work will be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Portuguese is required for this internship. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) or Kiswahili or Hindi is considered desirable. Strong communication skills in both written and spoken forms are essential for effective collaboration within the UN environment.
