The Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) bans nuclear explosions by everyone, everywhere: on the Earth's surface, in the atmosphere, underwater and underground. Since the Treaty is not yet in force, the organization is called the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO). It was founded in 1996, has over 260 staff from over 70 countries, and is based in Vienna. The CTBTO’s main tasks are the promotion of the Treaty and the build-up of the verification regime so that it is operational when the Treaty enters into force.

Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position within the Legal Services Section of the CTBTO offers a unique opportunity for university students and recent graduates to gain practical experience in the field of law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">international law. Interns will engage in various tasks that contribute to the Commission's activities, particularly in legal research and document preparation. The internship is designed to provide a learning and development experience, allowing interns to work on specific assignments that align with the current needs of the Legal Services Section. Interns will be supervised by the Chief of the Legal Services Section and will collaborate with senior legal officers, gaining insights into the legal frameworks that govern the operations of the CTBTO and its interactions with States Signatories.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for conducting research on public international law and international administrative law, drafting notes and summaries based on their research findings, and assisting in the review of legal documents. Additionally, interns will support the preparation of outreach activities, such as workshops and seminars, and undertake other duties as assigned by their supervisors. This role requires a proactive approach to learning and a willingness to engage with complex legal issues relevant to the CTBTO's mission.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be between 18 and 35 years of age at the time of application. They should have completed at least a university degree in law, with a specialization in international law. An advanced degree in international law is considered an asset.
