IOM has been present in Mauritania since 2006 and has taken on the role of the United Nations agency responsible for migration since September 2016.

Job Overview:
The Chauffeur will be based in Nouakchott and will work under the direct supervision of the Senior Logistic & Procurement Assistant and the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission. The primary responsibility of the Chauffeur is to drive the assigned vehicles in compliance with IOM driving regulations and safety protocols. The role requires ensuring that the vehicle is in good working condition before, during, and after use, including checking oil levels, fuel, and tire quality. The Chauffeur is expected to transport IOM personnel safely and efficiently, perform minor vehicle maintenance, and adhere to all United Nations security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security protocols during field visits. This position is crucial for maintaining the operational efficiency of IOM's activities in the region, ensuring that staff can travel safely and effectively to fulfill their duties.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Drive the assigned vehicles in strict adherence to traffic regulations and IOM driving rules.
  • Ensure that the allocated vehicle is in good working condition before, during, and after each use, including checking oil levels, fuel, and tire quality.
  • Transport IOM personnel under the safest possible conditions.
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks on the vehicle as necessary, including regular cleaning (both exterior and interior).
  • Comply with all security protocols required by the United Nations before, during, and after field visits, including reporting movements via radio or phone and ensuring the presence of a survival kit in the vehicle.
  • Inform the direct supervisor of any information or observations related to the safety of the vehicles and personnel during transport.
  • In the event of a road accident, take necessary actions to ensure the safety of personnel first, followed by the vehicle, and then notify the direct supervisors and insurance.
  • Maintain the Vehicle Logbook in good condition and ensure it is updated regularly.
  • Ensure that the vehicle is used solely for professional purposes and in the best interest of IOM. 1
  • Distribute any correspondence or parcels from IOM to their intended recipients and transport materials to the field as necessary. 1
  • Perform any other tasks as requested by direct supervisors.

Required Qualifications:
  • Valid driving license for both light and heavy vehicles, including public transport.
  • A minimum of a high school diploma (Bac or equivalent).
  • At least two years of professional experience as a driver in an international organization or NGO.
  • Flexibility regarding working hours is essential.

Educational Background:

Experience:
Candidates should have at least two years of professional experience as a driver in an international organization or non-governmental organization (NGO). The ability to be flexible with working hours is also necessary, as the role may require working outside of standard hours depending on operational needs.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of local languages is considered an asset, enhancing communication with local communities and stakeholders.
