Job Overview: The Anticipatory Action/Risk Financing Reports & Communications Officer will play a crucial role in supporting WFP's climate action portfolio in Mauritania. This position is integral to the Climate and Disaster Risk Reduction Programmes, which aim to assist governments in managing climate risks and adapting to climate change. The officer will be responsible for knowledge creation, management, and dissemination, as well as preparing briefings and communication actions related to disaster risk management and financing. The role requires a proactive approach to developing communication materials and managing information dissemination. The officer will also support the mobilization of financial resources through donor proposals, contributing significantly to the development of WFP's programs. Duties and Responsibilities: The officer's duties will include supporting the development of communications, advocacy, and reports for the climate action portfolio, ensuring that logframe indicators and quality standards are maintained. The officer will document and disseminate best practices and lessons learned from the Anticipatory Action and Climate Risk Management Programme, generating relevant communications and advocacy materials. Responsibilities also include developing external and internal publications, updating the website, and creating an annual communication plan that identifies climate action-related events. The officer will support knowledge and learning initiatives, manage partnerships for improved climate action interventions, and conduct research and analysis to assist senior colleagues in developing policies and programs related to disaster risk management. Additionally, the officer will contribute to capacity building for WFP staff, partners, and national governments on anticipatory actions through project management support for learning initiatives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in communications, climate change adaptation, agriculture and food security, development studies, environmental studies, or a related field. A minimum of 1-4 years of post-graduate experience in communications and knowledge management is required. Experience with WFP and/or Anticipatory Action programs is considered an asset. The ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing is essential. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively in a team and establish effective working relationships with individuals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in one of the following areas: communications, climate change adaptation, agriculture and food security, development studies, environmental studies, or a related field. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of climate action and effective communication strategies within the humanitarian context.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have at least 1-4 years of relevant post-graduate experience in communications, knowledge management, or related fields. Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, including strong writing skills. A working knowledge of French or Spanish (level B) is advantageous, as it will facilitate communication with a broader range of stakeholders and enhance the officer's effectiveness in the role.
