Job Overview:
The WASH & Nutrition Officer position is integral to the Helti Pikinini, Helti Vanuatu Project, which focuses on enhancing child health and nutrition across Vanuatu. This role is based in the Luganville Office and involves working closely with local communities to implement integrated health and nutrition initiatives. The officer will be responsible for developing community WASH action plans, promoting sanitation and hygiene practices, and ensuring access to nutritious food for children aged 0-
  • The position requires a proactive approach to community engagement, as well as the ability to coordinate with various stakeholders, including local health workers and community leaders. The officer will also contribute to monitoring and evaluating project outcomes, ensuring that the initiatives are effective and sustainable.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The WASH & Nutrition Officer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
  • Community Engagement & Implementation: Facilitate community entry and dialogue, mobilize local leaders and volunteers for WASH and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food security activities, coordinate sensitization events, and conduct training on hygiene promotion and food preservation.
  • Coordination & Partnerships: Collaborate with Area Secretaries, health workers, and other stakeholders to implement project components, represent Save the Children at community meetings, and liaise with government departments and community groups.
  • Logistical & Operational Support: Assist in procurement processes, monitor construction activities, collect data, and support training initiatives to ensure quality project delivery.
  • Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting: Track project participation and progress, document success stories, and report regularly to the Program Manager.
  • Safety, Wellbeing & Child Safeguarding: Adhere to workplace health and safety protocols, maintain a child-safe environment, and respond to any safeguarding concerns.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the WASH & Nutrition Officer position must possess a Certificate or Diploma in Community Development or a related field. Additionally, they should have at least two years of experience in project delivery and community mobilization, particularly in WASH, infrastructure, or nutrition programming. Familiarity with participatory approaches and community engagement strategies is essential, along with strong interpersonal and communication skills in both Bislama and English. Experience working in rural contexts, especially within Shefa Province, is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Certificate or Diploma in Community Development. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the principles of community engagement, project management, and the specific needs related to WASH and nutrition initiatives.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of two years of relevant experience in project delivery and community mobilization. This experience should preferably be in the fields of WASH, infrastructure, and nutrition programming, demonstrating the ability to effectively engage with communities and implement sustainable initiatives.

Languages:
Proficiency in Bislama and English is mandatory for this position. These language skills are essential for effective communication with local communities, stakeholders, and team members. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.

This position is based in Luganville, Sanma, Vanuatu, and is a full-time role.
