Job Overview: The Protection from Violence Coordinator plays a critical role in leading the implementation of protection activities across North-East Ukraine. This position is essential for ensuring that the organization's interventions are effective, timely, and aligned with NRC's strategic objectives. The coordinator will oversee the day-to-day service delivery of protection activities, supervise the PfV staff, and engage with affected populations to understand their needs and challenges. The role involves conducting protection monitoring at community and household levels, providing specialized responses such as Individual Protection Assistance (IPA), and coordinating referrals to internal and external service providers. The coordinator will also be responsible for planning and prioritizing interventions based on context analysis, identifying protection risks and trends, and fostering collaboration with various protection actors and stakeholders. This position is vital for ensuring that NRC's protection standards are upheld and that the organization remains responsive to the evolving needs of the communities it serves.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Protection from Violence Coordinator will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including:
Ensuring compliance with NRC's global and national policies, procedures, handbooks, and guidelines, and proposing new initiatives to address any gaps.
Developing systems and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure effective implementation of protection activities.
Identifying, analyzing, and evaluating key processes and gaps in team activities, making recommendations for improvement.
Building strong working relationships with local authorities, civil society, NGOs, and other stakeholders, representing NRC in relevant meetings.
Supporting the rollout of needs assessments in target areas, including border regions and insecure environments.
Maintaining up-to-date service mapping and referral pathways for individuals in need of assistance.
Preparing and developing status reports for management, including timely reporting on programmatic and contextual issues.
Ensuring proper data protection of sensitive information and maintaining databases in accordance with data protection protocols. Specific responsibilities include supervising the PfV team, supporting the implementation of NRC's Protection Policy, developing relationships with external protection actors, managing project budgets, leading stakeholder meetings, developing protection tools and guidance, and producing regular context analysis updates on protection trends.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Protection from Violence Coordinator position must possess a strong understanding of humanitarian and protection principles, with a commitment to ensuring their observance in field activities. Documented results related to the position's responsibilities are essential, along with previous experience in complex and volatile contexts. Experience in coordination and liaising with external actors is required, as well as good reporting skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is necessary, along with a good command of English, both written and verbal. Experience: The ideal candidate should have significant experience working in humanitarian projects, particularly in protection roles. Previous experience in complex and volatile contexts is essential, as well as experience in coordination and collaboration with external actors. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of protection principles and practices, as well as experience in managing teams and projects effectively.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, both written and verbal. Knowledge of Ukrainian or Russian is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local communities and stakeholders. Additional language skills may be considered an advantage, depending on the context of the work.
Additional Notes: This position is expected to start in March 2026, and the successful candidate will be part of a new area office that is being established in Kharkiv. The role is full-time and will involve working in a challenging and dynamic environment.
