The organization operates in over 30 countries worldwide, employing thousands of staff members who work tirelessly to deliver aid and support to those in need. In Ukraine, NRC is reinforcing its presence in North-East Ukraine, particularly in Kharkiv and Sumy regions, to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis and support vulnerable populations.

Job Overview:
The Education Project Manager will play a crucial role in the establishment and operationalization of the new Area Office North-East (AONE) in Kharkiv, which is set to begin operations in March 202
  • This position will focus on overseeing and managing education-related projects aimed at supporting internally displaced persons (IDPs) and returnees. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that educational programs are effectively implemented, monitored, and evaluated, while also promoting the rights of vulnerable populations in line with NRC's advocacy strategy. The role requires a strong commitment to protecting the rights of IDPs and ensuring that educational interventions are tailored to meet the needs of the most vulnerable communities. The Education Project Manager will also be expected to contribute to the development of education strategies and coordinate with various stakeholders to enhance the quality and reach of educational services.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Education Project Manager will have a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Adhering to NRC policies, guidance, and procedures to ensure compliance and effective project implementation.
  • Targeting assistance to those most in need of protection and exploring innovative ways to provide support.
  • Advocating for the rights of IDPs and returnees in accordance with NRC's advocacy strategy.
  • Contributing technical expertise in education to program development, adjustments, and reviews.
  • Conducting technical assessments specific to education and presenting actionable recommendations.
  • Providing technical input to coordination mechanisms and working groups as requested by the Education Project Manager.
  • Ensuring consistent communication within the team and with management, including regular reporting and updates.
  • Monitoring and evaluating youth engagement activities in collaboration with implementing partners and local organizations.
  • Supporting the implementation of NRC school grants and catch-up activities, including training for teachers and engagement with parents. 1
  • Conducting education needs assessments and ensuring proper documentation and filing of project-related materials. 1
  • Collecting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data to inform project decisions and improvements. 1
  • Managing the education technical assistant/s or education officer, ensuring timely delivery of tasks and quality performance. 1
  • Supporting the capacity building of project staff and facilitating professional growth.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of three years of relevant experience in the field of education in emergencies, project management, and team leadership. They should have technical competencies related to the responsibilities of the position, including knowledge of youth programs in Ukraine and experience in delivering education training. Familiarity with cash and voucher modalities is considered an asset, as is a comprehensive understanding of the education system in Ukraine. The candidate should also demonstrate strong strategic thinking, planning, and communication skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in insecure environments.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is essential for this position, with a preference for candidates holding a degree in education, social sciences, or a related field. Advanced degrees or specialized training in education in emergencies or humanitarian response will be advantageous and may enhance a candidate's suitability for the role.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least three years of professional experience in education project management, particularly in emergency settings. Experience working with displaced populations and knowledge of the local context in Ukraine will be highly beneficial. Candidates should also demonstrate a track record of successfully managing projects, leading teams, and delivering results in challenging environments.

Languages:
Fluency in Ukrainian is mandatory, as the role requires effective communication with local stakeholders and beneficiaries. Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, is also required to facilitate reporting and coordination with international partners. Knowledge of the Russian language is considered an asset, as it may enhance communication with certain communities and stakeholders.

This position is full-time and will be based in Kharkiv, with a start date in March 202
  • The role is part of NRC's efforts to expand its operations in North-East Ukraine, and the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the establishment of the new Area Office. The position may involve some travel within the region to support project implementation and coordination with partners.
