Job Overview:
The Learning and Development Specialist will play a crucial role in the Board Strengthening Program (BSP), which focuses on enhancing governance support through various learning and development initiatives. This position is not merely a coordination role; rather, it is a technical support position aimed at developing and refining educational materials and training programs. The Specialist will collaborate closely with the Learning and Development Coordinator and the Digital Communications Officer to create and implement a range of learning opportunities, including both online and face-to-face training sessions. The BSP aims to provide comprehensive governance training, mentoring, and coaching services to board members, ensuring that they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their roles effectively. The Specialist will also assist in the development of a learning needs assessment platform and a centralized learning hub, making it easier for participants to access training resources and opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Learning and Development Specialist will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: developing and designing course materials and documentation that align with the BSP’s pedagogical approach; creating new digital and face-to-face course materials based on identified learning objectives; implementing the 'off-the-shelf' written materials project; updating existing course materials and learning activities in collaboration with BSP trainers; developing scripts and storyboards for new e-learning modules and multimedia content; evaluating content and learning activities based on feedback from participants and training teams; overseeing the content development of the BSP Learning and Development Hub; implementing the Learning Needs Assessment system in collaboration with the People Management Unit; sharing responsibilities with the Program Manager for direct board support activities, including facilitating retreats and conducting tailored training sessions; and participating in the strategic planning process of the BSP.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong technical skills in learning and development, particularly in the context of governance training. They should have experience in developing educational materials and training programs, as well as a solid understanding of adult learning principles. Proficiency in digital content creation and familiarity with e-learning platforms are essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team. A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to continuous improvement in learning and development practices are also required.

Educational Background:
A bachelor’s degree in education, human resources, organizational development, or a related field is required. A master’s degree in a relevant discipline is preferred. Candidates should have formal training in instructional design or a related area, with a strong emphasis on adult education methodologies.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in learning and development, particularly in designing and delivering training programs. Experience working in an international or non-profit context is highly desirable, as is familiarity with governance structures and board operations. Candidates should have a proven track record of successfully implementing learning initiatives and evaluating their effectiveness.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization. Proficiency in French is highly desirable, given the location of the position and the need to communicate with French-speaking stakeholders. Knowledge of additional languages would be considered an asset, particularly those relevant to MSF’s operational contexts.

  • The role is offered at 80% capacity, allowing for a flexible work schedule. The successful candidate will be based in any MSF office, depending on their country of residence at the time of application. Compensation and benefits will align with MSF's practices in the respective entity where the contract is established.
