Job Overview: The Counselling and Case Management Coordinator will play a crucial role in providing mental health and psychosocial support to international protection seekers residing in the Citywest accommodation facility. The primary aim of this position is to enhance the psychosocial well-being of these individuals and strengthen their resilience. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Chief of Mission in Ireland and the Head of the MHPSS Unit, collaborating closely with the Senior Case Management Associate. The role involves implementing project activities related to social work matters and services for international protection applicants. The coordinator will be responsible for mapping the provision of basic services and protection activities, disseminating information about available resources, and providing direct assistance to vulnerable individuals and families, including women, children, and persons with disabilities. The position also requires organizing sensitization and problem-solving group sessions, strengthening social networks, and promoting community initiatives that foster psychosocial support. The coordinator will identify vulnerable cases, ensure their access to protection services, and facilitate MHPSS needs assessments and community-based activities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Counselling and Case Management Coordinator will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including:
Mapping and documenting the provision of basic services and protection activities at the microlevel.
Disseminating information on how to access these services and resources.
Providing direct assistance to vulnerable individuals and families, including women, children, and persons with disabilities.
Organizing sensitization, information, and problem-solving group sessions in collaboration with educators.
Strengthening existing social networks and promoting community initiatives that activate protective and restorative psychosocial factors.
Identifying vulnerable cases and ensuring their access to protection services.
Coordinating with team members to include vulnerable cases in community-based activities.
Providing technical guidance and supervision to community focal points and volunteers.
Facilitating MHPSS needs assessments, surveys, and research to enhance access to services. 1
Organizing and coordinating integration activities for MHPSS and livelihood support. 1
Developing recreational activities and establishing volunteer working groups. 1
Preparing documentation, leaflets, and outreach messaging in collaboration with Cultural Mediators. 1
Performing other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or Social Work, with a minimum of three years of relevant work experience. Candidates should have a strong background in social and protection activities, particularly in areas related to migration and refugee support. Previous experience in communicating and working with diverse populations is essential, as well as familiarity with direct assistance to migrants and refugees. Strong organizational, facilitation, communication, writing, and presentation skills are necessary, along with computer literacy in standard software applications such as MS Office. A valid driver’s license with at least five years of driving experience is considered an advantage.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or Social Work from an accredited university, as recognized by the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of social work and the specific needs of vulnerable populations, particularly in the context of migration and asylum.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have previous experience in social and protection activities, particularly in areas related to migration and refugee support. Experience in working with vulnerable migrants and asylum seekers is preferred, as well as familiarity with the procedures related to asylum applications in Ireland. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in multicultural environments and with international organizations, NGOs, or government departments. Strong interpersonal skills, including empathy and emotional resilience, are crucial for effectively engaging with clients and stakeholders.
Languages: Fluency in English, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of any UN languages, such as French or Spanish, is considered an advantage. Proficiency in the required languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes: This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Ireland will be eligible for consideration. The appointment will be contingent upon certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, and necessary authorizations by the government. The selection process may be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in similar roles for a period of 24 months.
