Job Overview:
The Media and Communications Associate will play a crucial role in supporting the communication and visibility activities of the Migrant Protection, Return, and Reintegration Programme in North Africa (MPRR-NA). This position involves working closely with the Regional Director, Senior Regional Media and Communications Officer, and various teams to implement effective communication strategies. The incumbent will be responsible for gathering and disseminating information about MPRR activities, drafting public information materials, and maintaining communication tools to ensure consistent messaging across the program. The role requires a proactive approach to collecting content from country offices and engaging with media outlets to promote IOM's work. Additionally, the associate will assist in logistical support for communication-related events and training sessions, ensuring that all materials align with IOM and donor standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the implementation of communication activities by collecting and organizing materials for outreach and visibility efforts under the MPRR.
  • Gather and disseminate public information on MPRR activities, ensuring coherent messaging across Country Offices.
  • Draft and edit public information materials, including press briefing notes, newsletters, and social media content.
  • Follow up with country offices regarding the use of MPRR communication tools and materials.
  • Prepare editable templates for program use to promote consistency and efficiency.
  • Maintain a regional repository of MPRR communication materials for internal and external use.
  • Provide logistical assistance for communication activities linked to regional workshops and outreach events.
  • Maintain regular contact with Country Office staff to collect content that highlights IOM’s work.
  • Liaise with HQ and relevant IOM offices to share communication materials and align them with global messaging. 1
  • Disseminate communication materials for communities, ensuring accessibility and alignment with standards. 1
  • Assist in the publication and distribution of media content on IOM media channels. 1
  • Prepare communications products such as infographics and multimedia content. 1
  • Maintain contact with media outlets and provide logistical support for training sessions on communication practices. 1
  • Perform other duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma with five years of relevant professional experience; or a Bachelor’s degree in Media and Communications, Public Information, Journalism, or a related field with three years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in public information, media, or communications activities in a UN organization, NGO, or similar institution.
  • Experience working with news media outlets or communication offices is preferred.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Basic knowledge of graphic design, photography, video, web, and social media tools.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills are essential.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess either a high school diploma with five years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution, such as Media and Communications, Public Information, or Journalism. Accredited institutions are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, ensuring that candidates have received a recognized and quality education in their field of study.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience for candidates with a Bachelor’s degree, or five years for those with a high school diploma. Experience should include providing support in public information, media, or communications activities, preferably within a UN organization, NGO, or similar institution. Candidates should also have experience working with news media outlets or communication offices, demonstrating their ability to engage effectively with various stakeholders.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Arabic is required for this position, both oral and written. A working knowledge of French is considered an advantage, as IOM's official languages include English, French, and Spanish. Proficiency in the required languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments to ensure candidates can effectively communicate in the necessary languages.

Additional Notes:
This position is subject to local recruitment, meaning that only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Egypt will be considered. The appointment will be contingent upon medical fitness certification, verification of residency, and necessary government authorizations. The selection process may also be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in similar roles for a period of 24 months.
