Job Overview: The Team Leader position within the IAEA's Department of Safeguards is a critical role that involves managing a team responsible for providing essential equipment and services related to nuclear safeguards. The Team Leader will oversee the procurement, delivery, installation, and maintenance of non-destructive assay (NDA) equipment, containment solutions, and surveillance cameras. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, management skills, and leadership abilities to ensure that the team meets its objectives efficiently and effectively. The Team Leader will also be responsible for applying lean management principles to optimize processes and improve service delivery. The position demands a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to liaise with various stakeholders, including state authorities and other departments within the IAEA.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Team Leader will manage a team of engineers, specialists, and technicians, ensuring the effective planning and delivery of equipment implementation services. Key responsibilities include:
Planning and implementing the team's work program, establishing objectives, milestones, and performance indicators.
Leading sub-projects related to the Member State Support Programme and overseeing procurement contracts.
Defining user requirements for technologies and applications within the team's scope.
Liaising with state authorities on the installation of safeguards instrumentation.
Monitoring team performance and supporting staff development.
Promoting knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within the team.
Ensuring compliance with safety regulations, particularly regarding exposure to radioactive materials.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's Degree in physics, engineering, or a related technical field. Alternatively, a Bachelor's Degree with two additional years of relevant experience may be considered. A minimum of ten years of relevant working experience is required, including supervisory or management experience and managing complex technical projects. Candidates should demonstrate strong leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are mandatory, and knowledge of other official IAEA languages is an asset.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master's Degree) in physics, engineering, or a related technical field. A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field, combined with two years of additional relevant working experience, may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the technical aspects of nuclear instrumentation and safeguards.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of ten years of relevant working experience, particularly in areas related to nuclear instrumentation, safeguards, and project management. Candidates should have experience in a supervisory or management capacity, demonstrating the ability to lead teams and manage complex technical projects effectively. Experience in the implementation of containment and surveillance systems, as well as knowledge of quality management principles, is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages, including Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's profile.
