In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. In doing so, UN Member States took an historic step in accelerating the Organization’s goals on gender equality and the empowerment of women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system, which focused exclusively on gender equality and women’s empowerment:

The main roles of UN Women are:
> To support inter-governmental bodies, such as the Commission on the Status of Women, in their formulation of policies, global standards and norms.
> To help Member States to implement these standards, standing ready to provide suitable technical and financial support to those countries that request it, and to forge effective partnerships with civil society.
> To lead and coordinate the UN system’s work on gender equality as well as promote accountability, including through regular monitoring of system-wide progress.

The organization is currently implementing a UN Joint Programme with UNICEF Montenegro to address violence against women and children, supported by the Montenegro SDG Acceleration Fund, focusing on strengthening national systems and services for survivors of gender-based violence and violence against children.
Job Overview: The Local coordinator" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Technical Coordinator will play a crucial role in supporting the local coordination and implementation of activities under the UN Joint Programme ‘Strengthening the System Support on Prevention of Violence Against Women, Girls, and Boys’. This position requires close collaboration with UNICEF Montenegro and involves direct supervision by the project manager at UN Women Albania. The coordinator will be responsible for ensuring effective implementation and coordination of project activities, which include enhancing multisectoral cooperation, increasing institutional capacities, and improving services for survivors of violence. The role also entails strengthening partnerships with national and local institutions, identifying strategic partnership opportunities, and contributing to the overall success of the project by providing technical advice and support.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Local Technical Coordinator will be responsible for overall coordination and technical advice on the implementation of all project activities under the UN Women component of the UN Joint Programme. Key responsibilities include organizing events and trainings, coordinating with national and local institutions, advising on agenda setting and participant lists, and ensuring effective follow-up with partners. The coordinator will facilitate regular communication and partnership building with local institutions, including various ministries and civil society organizations, and contribute technical inputs to the development of training modules. Additionally, the coordinator will support engagement with UN Agencies, particularly UNICEF, attend strategic meetings, monitor UN Women’s engagement in key processes related to gender equality, and ensure knowledge management by documenting lessons learned and good practices. The role also involves contributing to advocacy and communication efforts to highlight project achievements and support donor reporting.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree in international development, gender, human rights, social sciences, economics, or related fields. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. The position requires at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in project coordination involving local and national stakeholders in the field of gender equality. Prior experience working with national partners, civil society organizations, or international actors to prevent and address violence against women is essential. Experience in gender-responsive budgeting is considered an asset, and familiarity with the UN system or similar international organizations is advantageous. Proficiency in the use of computers and office software packages is also required.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree in international development, gender, human rights, social sciences, economics, or related fields. In cases where candidates hold a first-level university degree, they must also have two additional years of qualifying experience to be considered for the role.
