Job Overview: The position of Communications Consultant within the Citizen security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Division (IFD/CIS) is pivotal for leading both external and internal communications efforts related to the division's work. The consultant will collaborate closely with the division's front office and the IDB's Corporate Communications Division (EXC/DCC). The primary goal is to craft compelling narratives and create impactful content that effectively positions the division's initiatives within the IDB and to external audiences. The consultant will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic communications plans that align with the division's objectives, ensuring that all communications adhere to IDB corporate guidelines. This role requires a deep understanding of the division's work areas to create strong narratives and identify potential communication challenges. The consultant will also assess training needs and coordinate communications training, ensuring that the division's messaging is clear and effective across various platforms.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Communications Consultant will undertake a variety of duties, including but not limited to: developing and implementing a strategic communications plan tailored to the Division’s objectives; creating comprehensive communications plans for disseminating knowledge products; ensuring alignment with IDB corporate communications guidelines; crafting tailored communication strategies for initiatives and publications; conducting in-depth research into IFD/CIS work areas to secure strong narratives; identifying internal and external audiences; arranging communications training; overseeing the production of outreach products for print and digital purposes; drafting and disseminating a daily newsletter summarizing key news related to Citizen Security; proofreading and editing content in both English and Spanish; creating visually engaging content materials; coordinating content production across IDB communications channels; planning and coordinating logistics for dissemination events; and building effective professional relationships with key contacts.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, economics, or a related field. Additionally, at least 5 years of relevant experience in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field is required. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a strong understanding of strategic communications and content creation, as well as the ability to work collaboratively across teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Proficiency in both English and Spanish is mandatory, with additional knowledge of French and Portuguese being preferable.
Educational Background: A Master's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, economics, or another related field is desirable for this position. This educational background will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of communications within the context of citizen security and public policy.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field. This experience should include a proven track record of developing and implementing strategic communications plans, creating content for diverse audiences, and managing communications projects effectively. A suitable combination of education and experience may also be considered.
Languages: Proficiency in both Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required for this role. Candidates with additional knowledge of French and Portuguese will have an advantage, as these languages can enhance communication with a broader audience in the region.
Additional Notes: The contract type for this position is that of an International Consultant, and it is a full-time role with a duration of 12 months. The work location is on-site in Washington DC.
