Job Overview:
The Applied Economics Consultant position is a critical role within the Vice Presidency for Finance and Administration (VPF) at the IDB Group. The consultant will be responsible for providing strategic support to the Vice President by conducting applied economic analyses that inform decision-making processes. This role requires advanced expertise in economic analysis, statistics, and public administration, as the consultant will engage in both quantitative and qualitative research. The consultant will be expected to produce ad-hoc reports, monitor economic developments, assess financial conditions, and provide tailored analytical support for various institutional initiatives. The position demands a high level of analytical thinking and the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable insights that align with the IDB's strategic goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Applied Economics Consultant will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to: conducting ad-hoc and periodic reporting for the VPF, utilizing econometric exercises and scenario analysis to support institutional decision-making; monitoring global and regional monetary and financial developments, including innovations like Central Bank Digital Currencies and stablecoins; assessing economic and financial conditions at subregional and country levels; running consultations across IDB departments to gather timely information; providing analytical support for lending envelope design and pipeline planning; applying political economy frameworks to link regional political developments with market outcomes; reviewing and synthesizing MDB and IDB working documents; preparing executive briefs and financial documentation for the VPF; and systematizing applied lessons from MDBs and international institutions.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Applied Economics Consultant position must possess a Master’s degree in relevant fields such as Legal, Finance, Business Administration, or Public Policy. Additionally, candidates should have at least 5 years of progressive experience in Economics, strategy management, and public administration. Proficiency in both Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required, while knowledge of French and Portuguese is considered an asset. Candidates must also be citizens of one of the IDB's 48 member countries and should not have family members working at the IDB or its affiliates.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree in fields that are pertinent to the responsibilities of the role. This could encompass areas such as Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Public Policy, or other related disciplines that provide the necessary analytical and strategic skills needed for the position.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in relevant fields such as Economics, strategy management, and public administration. This experience should demonstrate a strong understanding of economic analysis and the ability to apply this knowledge in a practical context to support institutional objectives.

Languages:
Proficiency in Spanish and English is mandatory for this role, both in spoken and written forms. Additionally, knowledge of French and Portuguese is considered advantageous and may enhance a candidate's suitability for the position.

Additional Notes:
The contract for the Applied Economics Consultant position is full-time and is expected to last for 36 months.
