Job Posting Organization:
The Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) is a member of the World Bank Group, established to promote foreign direct investment into developing countries. MIGA's mission is to help end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity by providing political risk insurance and credit enhancement to investors and lenders against losses caused by non-commercial risks. Job Overview:
The Counsel position at MIGA involves providing legal advice and support for the agency's guarantee operations within the World Bank Group Guarantee Platform. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of legal aspects related to guarantee products, including transaction structures and eligibility criteria under MIGA's governing documents. The Counsel will work closely with project teams, reviewing project documents, conducting due diligence, and advising on project risks. This position is integral to ensuring that MIGA's legal framework supports its mission of promoting foreign investment in developing countries. The Counsel will also manage relationships with outside counsel and assist in the preparation of various legal documents related to guarantees. The role demands a proactive approach to legal challenges and a commitment to supporting MIGA's objectives in a diverse and dynamic environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Counsel will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to: providing legal advice on guarantee operations, reviewing project documents, advising on project risks, conducting due diligence, drafting and negotiating guarantee agreements, overseeing outside counsel, assisting in the preparation of waivers and consents, researching and drafting legal memoranda, managing disputes between investors and host countries, and carrying out additional duties as assigned by the General Counsel or Chief Counsel. The Counsel will also be expected to contribute to the development of legal strategies that align with MIGA's goals and to maintain high standards of legal practice throughout all operations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Juris Doctor, LLB, or equivalent law degree, with qualification to practice law in at least one jurisdiction. An LLM degree is considered a plus. Additionally, candidates should have at least 5 years of relevant legal experience, preferably in a law firm, international financial institution, or corporation with international business operations. Relevant experience should include work in transactions involving cross-border lending or investment in developing countries, project finance, and political risk insurance. Strong analytical skills, client service orientation, organizational abilities, and excellent interpersonal skills are essential for this role.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Juris Doctor, LLB, or equivalent law degree. Candidates must be qualified to practice law in at least one jurisdiction, and an LLM degree is advantageous. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complex legal frameworks that govern MIGA's operations and for providing sound legal advice.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant legal experience since earning the law degree. This experience should ideally be gained in a law firm, international financial institution, or corporation with a focus on international business or finance operations. Candidates with experience in cross-border transactions, project finance, and political risk insurance will be particularly well-suited for this role.

Languages:
The mandatory language for this position is English, with excellent oral and written communication skills required. Candidates must be able to draft and negotiate complex legal documents in English. Additionally, proficiency in other languages such as French, Spanish, or Portuguese is preferred and considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
