Job Overview: The Protection from Violence (PfV) Project Manager role at NRC is designed for a highly qualified and resilient professional who will oversee the PfV program in South Ukraine. The primary objective of this position is to ensure the delivery of quality programming and effective coordination of the PfV initiatives. The Project Manager will be responsible for mentoring and training staff on technical issues related to protection from violence, ensuring that the programming is safe, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of the community. This role requires a proactive approach to project management, including the development of detailed work plans, spending plans, and recruitment strategies, as well as regular site visits to monitor project implementation and community engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Protection from Violence (PfV) Project Manager include:
Overall management of PfV projects in South Ukraine, ensuring adherence to the project management cycle and safe programming practices.
Development and monitoring of detailed project work plans, spending plans, and recruitment plans for specific community-centered projects.
Contribution to the development and implementation of Civilian Self-Protection activities, ensuring community involvement and feedback.
Conducting regular site visits to oversee the implementation of civilian self-protection projects and assess their effectiveness.
Facilitating capacity development for PfV staff, focusing on key skills in civilian self-protection and inclusive programming.
Engaging with local community representatives and stakeholders to foster collaboration and support for project initiatives.
Supervising community participatory processes, including assessments, workshops, and monitoring of collective sites in coordination with the CCCM cluster.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the PfV Project Manager position must possess a relevant university degree and have at least three years of field experience in a similar role, particularly in complex emergencies. They should demonstrate expertise in project cycle management, risk management, staff management and development, as well as grants and budget management. Additional qualifications include experience in logistics and administration management, coordination and advocacy work, and excellent communication and reporting skills, both written and oral. Candidates must also exhibit a willingness to work in demanding and stressful situations while adhering to security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security protocols.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a relevant university degree, which may encompass fields such as social sciences, international relations, humanitarian studies, or a related discipline. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of protection work in humanitarian contexts and for effectively managing projects that address the needs of vulnerable populations.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have a minimum of three years of experience working as a Protection Project Manager or coordinator in complex emergency settings. This experience should include comprehensive knowledge of project cycle management, risk management, and the ability to lead and develop staff effectively. Familiarity with the humanitarian context in Ukraine and previous involvement in protection programming will be highly advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, knowledge of local languages, specifically Ukrainian and Russian, is highly desirable as it facilitates communication with local communities and stakeholders. Proficiency in these languages will enhance the effectiveness of project implementation and community engagement.
Additional Notes: The position is based in Mykolaiv, South Ukraine, with linked field offices. It is a fixed national contract set to end in 2026, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. The role may require travel of up to 40% to field locations.
