Job Overview:
The consultant will work under the direct supervision of the Programme Specialist and will be responsible for providing simultaneous or consecutive interpretation services from Myanmar to English and vice versa during various activities. This role is crucial for ensuring effective communication during workshops and meetings, particularly those conducted online via platforms like Zoom. The consultant's services will be required for an estimated total of 220 hours from November 17, 2025, to November 30, 202
  • The deliverables and confirmation of service will be contingent upon the issuance of a purchase order, emphasizing the need for reliability and professionalism in fulfilling the role's requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary duties and responsibilities of the consultant include providing consecutive and simultaneous interpretation services during virtual workshops and meetings. This involves translating spoken content from English to Myanmar and vice versa, as well as providing written translations in chat boxes during these sessions. The consultant must ensure accuracy and clarity in communication, maintaining impartiality and confidentiality throughout the process. The role requires a commitment to ethical behavior and responsibility, as well as the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders and facilitate inclusive collaboration among participants. The consultant will also need to demonstrate linguistic agility and a deep understanding of the cultural nuances involved in interpretation.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Additionally, linguistic certification will be considered an asset. The role requires fluency in both English and Myanmar languages, with a strong emphasis on linguistic agility and the ability to interpret complex terminologies related to gender, development, and humanitarian issues. Candidates should also exhibit a commitment to ethical standards and confidentiality in their work.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes at least a bachelor’s degree in any relevant field. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of interpretation and the specific terminologies used in the context of gender equality, humanitarian action, and development. Linguistic certification is an added advantage, showcasing the candidate's proficiency and expertise in language interpretation.

Experience:
A minimum of four years of professional experience in English-Myanmar-English interpretation services is required for this position. Candidates with experience in providing interpretation services for UN agencies or other development organizations will be preferred. Familiarity with program management, results-based management, and specific terminologies related to CEDAW, Gender and Development, Women, Peace and Security, and migration is essential for effectively fulfilling the role's responsibilities.

Languages:
Fluency in both English and Myanmar languages is mandatory for this position. Candidates must demonstrate a high level of proficiency in both languages to ensure accurate and effective interpretation. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered beneficial but is not a requirement for this role.
