Job Overview:
The Investment Officer position at IFC is designed to support Upstream (pre-investment) and Advisory work specifically in the Manufacturing, Agribusiness, and Services (MAS) sectors within the Europe region. The primary goal of this role is to identify potential investment opportunities, contribute to project development, and maximize the impact of IFC’s interventions. The Investment Officer will play a vital role in economic development in Ukraine and the broader IFC Europe region by executing innovative and developmental Upstream engagements. This position requires collaboration with senior officers responsible for originating, designing, negotiating, structuring, and implementing IFC’s Upstream engagements. The officer will be tasked with delivering on assigned initiatives and supporting operational and portfolio supervision activities within the MAS Europe team.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Investment Officer will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
  • Business Development: Assisting the MAS EUR Upstream team with business development and investment origination, identifying and assessing impactful investment opportunities, conducting integrity due diligence, and reviewing financial statements of companies.
  • Execution of Upstream Projects: Leading the execution of multiple Upstream transactions, managing consulting engagements, conducting technical and financial assessments, and driving engagements to financial close.
  • Market Creation: Supporting the development and implementation of joint initiatives across WBG departments, developing strategic partnerships, and unlocking opportunities for private investment.
  • Reporting: Producing regular internal and external reports on project progress and maintaining relationships with stakeholders to facilitate IFC activities.
  • Additional Duties: Engaging in other activities aligned with WBG needs to support personal growth within the organization.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in business, finance, or economics, along with at least 7 years of relevant experience in corporate and project finance, investment banking, or business consulting, particularly within Ukraine. A deep understanding of the MAS sectors and a strong track record of financial and contractual closings of investment transactions are essential. Proven experience in stakeholder management, financial and analytical skills, and early-stage project development is also required. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication and leadership abilities, with a commitment to sustainable development and a willingness to travel extensively as needed.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree in business, finance, or economics. This advanced degree is crucial for understanding complex financial models and investment strategies necessary for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 7 years of experience in relevant fields such as corporate finance, investment banking, or business consulting. Candidates should have a proven track record in managing diverse project teams and successfully closing investment transactions, particularly in the MAS sectors.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, while proficiency in Ukrainian is considered a plus. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential for effective stakeholder engagement and reporting.
