Job Overview: The Women Protection Coordinator position is critical within the UNFPA Country Office in Aden, Yemen. This role involves providing strategic guidance and support for Gender-Based Violence (GBV) coordination and information management systems. The coordinator will work closely with various stakeholders, including government ministries, NGOs, and other partners, to enhance GBV response and prevention efforts. The position requires a deep understanding of GBV issues in both emergency and development contexts, as well as the ability to navigate complex operational environments. The coordinator will be responsible for facilitating GBV coordination meetings, mobilizing partners, and ensuring effective implementation of GBV programs. This role is essential for advancing UNFPA's mission and ensuring that GBV issues are prioritized in humanitarian responses and development initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Women Protection Coordinator will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:
Leading GBV coordination efforts by organizing monthly meetings, preparing minutes, and developing reports.
Mobilizing new members and ensuring active participation from government representatives and development partners.
Collaborating with the Yemen Protection Cluster to integrate GBV issues into broader humanitarian programming.
Maintaining a centralized database of GBV partners and their geographical presence.
Supporting the transition of GBV coordination from emergency contexts to mainstream development efforts.
Conducting training for GBV AoR members on coordination and response services.
Guiding partners in developing GBV components of humanitarian response plans and contingency plans.
Promoting inter-agency collaboration for multi-sectoral GBV prevention and response services.
Maintaining a national database on GBV actors and projects, and facilitating assessments related to GBV. 1
Developing advocacy materials to highlight GBV needs in Yemen's humanitarian context.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced degree in social sciences, public health, international relations, or related fields. Additionally, they should have at least five years of relevant experience in GBV programming and coordination, particularly in emergency and humanitarian contexts. Strong communication, networking, and organizational skills are essential, along with proven management and coordination abilities. Experience in capacity building, training development, and data collection is also required. Candidates should demonstrate analytical thinking, emotional intelligence, and the ability to make transparent decisions. Fluency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of Dari or Pashtu is considered an asset.
Educational Background: An advanced degree in social sciences, public health, community health, international relations, human rights, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of GBV issues and the frameworks necessary for effective coordination and response.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant experience, preferably in GBV and emergency programming. Candidates should have field experience and a strong track record in building strategic alliances and partnerships. Experience in developing training materials and conducting training sessions is also important, as is familiarity with research, data collection, and database management.
Languages: Fluency in English and Arabic is required for this position. Knowledge of Dari or Pashtu is considered an asset, as it may enhance communication with diverse stakeholders and communities in Yemen.
