Job Overview:
The Programme Analyst Population and Development plays a vital role in analyzing and assessing political, social, and economic trends that impact UNFPA's programs. Reporting to the UNFPA Deputy Representative, the analyst will work within the Country Office environment to ensure effective management of UNFPA activities related to population and development. This position involves collaborating with local stakeholders, drafting project proposals, and implementing initiatives that align with UNFPA's strategic objectives. The analyst will systematically assess the achievement of results, conduct field visits, and participate in review meetings to evaluate project and program activities. Additionally, the role requires analyzing policy documents and national development plans to identify opportunities for UNFPA assistance and intervention. The Programme Analyst will also support senior officers in establishing partnerships and provide data and evidence to aid in advocacy and resource mobilization efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Programme Analyst Population and Development will be responsible for a comprehensive set of duties, including:
  • Participating in the identification and formulation of the country program and component projects related to population and development by compiling and analyzing relevant information.
  • Drafting concept notes and project proposals in the area of Population and Development.
  • Implementing initiatives in collaboration with local stakeholders and supervising work consultants.
  • Evaluating project and program activities, establishing mechanisms for systematic assessment of results, and recommending corrective actions as needed.
  • Conducting field visits and participating in review meetings and evaluation missions to prepare regular inputs for status and progress reports.
  • Analyzing factors affecting the achievement of results and recommending corrective actions.
  • Coordinating project implementation by establishing collaborative relationships with executing agencies, experts, government counterparts, and other UN agencies.
  • Contributing to the creation and sharing of knowledge by synthesizing findings, documenting lessons learned, and drafting materials for dissemination.
  • Analyzing and interpreting the political, social, and economic environment relevant to UNFPA activities and identifying opportunities for assistance. 1
  • Supporting senior officers in maintaining partnerships with implementing partners and government counterparts to facilitate timely delivery of UNFPA activities, especially in humanitarian settings. 1
  • Assisting Programme Coordinators in analyzing the environment relevant to UNFPA programs and pursuing opportunities for intervention. 1
  • Working with the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer to capture lessons learned for future planning. 1
  • Providing data and evidence to support advocacy and resource mobilization efforts. 1
  • Undertaking any other duties as requested by the supervisor or the Representative.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires the following qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in health, population, demography, or a related social science field.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in statistics or demography.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with young people in humanitarian settings is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data and present findings clearly and effectively.
  • Proven experience in project management and implementation, particularly in the context of population and development.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree in health, population, demography, or other related social science fields. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of population dynamics and development issues, as well as for effectively contributing to UNFPA's mission and objectives.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 2 years of relevant experience in the area of statistics or demography. This experience should include working in environments that require strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret data in the context of population and development. Familiarity with humanitarian settings and experience working with young people will be considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in both written and spoken English and Arabic is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an advantage, particularly in enhancing communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
