Job Overview: The Driver position at UNFPA is crucial for providing reliable and safe driving services to the Representative, Deputy Representative, and other high-ranking UN officials and visitors. This position is not just about driving; it involves ensuring the safety and timely arrival of officials at their destinations, managing vehicle maintenance, and assisting with various administrative duties as needed. The Driver will also be expected to act as a translator for official passengers when necessary, showcasing the importance of communication and cultural sensitivity in this role.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: driving office vehicles for the transport of UNFPA Representatives, high-ranking officials, and visitors; delivering and collecting mail and documentation; meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport and managing visa and customs formalities when required; staying informed about traffic, road conditions, and security issues to ensure safe and timely arrivals; managing all aspects of vehicle maintenance, including conducting minor repairs, cleaning, and arranging for major repairs and services; keeping daily vehicle logs and assisting in the preparation of vehicle maintenance plans and history reports; tracking insurance and tax formalities; providing support in protocol and visa-related formalities as needed; assisting the Administrative Assistant in fleet management; guiding and coaching junior drivers; and assisting CO staff with general administrative duties as required.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for the Driver position, candidates must possess a valid driver's license and have completed secondary level education. Additionally, candidates should have at least three years of work experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, or UN system, with a proven safe driving record. Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol and courtesies, local roads and conditions, and defensive driving skills is essential. Skills in minor vehicle repairs are also required, as the Driver will need to ensure the vehicle is in good running condition at all times.
Educational Background: Candidates must have completed secondary level education. This educational background is essential to ensure that the Driver has the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their duties effectively and safely.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of three years of work experience as a driver, specifically within an international organization, embassy, or UN system. This experience should include a demonstrated safe driving record, as well as familiarity with driving rules, regulations, and local conditions. The candidate should also have experience in managing vehicle maintenance and repairs.
Languages: A working knowledge of the official UN language of the duty station, which is Arabic, is required for this position. Proficiency in English is desirable, as it will facilitate communication with international staff and visitors.
