Job Overview: The Field Coordinator will serve as the representative of Solidarités International at the field level, tasked with defining and implementing the strategy for the assigned area in accordance with the geopolitical and humanitarian context. This role requires ensuring that all operations comply with the organization's charter, internal regulations, and contractual obligations. The Field Coordinator will be responsible for the overall coordination, management, and security of teams, as well as the efficient use of material and financial resources. The position is critical in overseeing the implementation of emergency multisectoral humanitarian programs aimed at supporting communities affected by drought, conflict, and displacement. The Field Coordinator will also play a vital role in liaising with local authorities, NGOs, and civil society, ensuring effective communication and coordination among various stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Field Coordinator will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including representing Solidarités International with NGOs, administrative, political, and local authorities, and participating in coordination and humanitarian forums. They will ensure the production of timely and high-quality reports and documentation, organize regular base meetings, and facilitate effective communication between the field, bases, and country coordination. The role involves supervising the security of personnel and assets, monitoring and analyzing the security situation, and ensuring the implementation of security procedures. The Field Coordinator will analyze the humanitarian, political, and socio-economic context to propose and monitor an operational strategy that aligns with the context. They will oversee the recruitment and management of field teams, ensuring adherence to SI's ethics and HR policies, and manage human, financial, and logistical resources efficiently. Additionally, they will oversee the planning, implementation, monitoring, and quality control of all projects within the intervention area, ensuring alignment with SI's strategy and beneficiary needs. The Field Coordinator will also contribute to internal and donor reporting, including monthly SitReps, funding applications, and budget monitoring, while maintaining transparent communication with the coordination team.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a master’s degree or equivalent field experience in Humanitarian Action, International Development, Social Sciences, Project Management, or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of experience in the humanitarian sector is required, with at least 3 to 4 years in a similar position. Relevant management skills are essential, including operation and team management, leadership, communication, problem-solving, decision-making, time management, adaptability, and organizational abilities. A strong understanding of finance and logistics processes is also necessary.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a master’s degree or equivalent field experience in relevant disciplines such as Humanitarian Action, International Development, Social Sciences, or Project Management. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of humanitarian work and effectively managing projects in challenging environments.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have at least 5 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with a specific focus on roles similar to that of a Field Coordinator. This experience should encompass operational management, team leadership, and the ability to navigate complex humanitarian contexts. Candidates with a proven track record of successfully implementing humanitarian programs and managing field teams will be preferred.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is essential for this position. Additionally, knowledge of local languages such as Amharic and Tigrigna is considered a strong asset, as it facilitates communication with local communities and stakeholders.

The role is based in Tigray, Ethiopia, and involves significant responsibilities in managing humanitarian operations in the region. The compensation package includes a gross monthly salary starting from EUR 3080, which consists of a base salary of EUR 2800 plus a 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly, along with a monthly Per Diem of USD 40
SI covers accommodation costs and travel expenses between the expatriate's country of origin and the place of assignment. During the assignment, a system of alternation between work and time off is implemented, allowing for breaks every three months, with an additional rest day granted for each month worked. Expatriates benefit from a comprehensive insurance package that covers healthcare expenses, including medical, surgical, dental, and repatriation costs. Living conditions include shared guesthouse accommodations, with internet and telephone access available in major locations. While social life in Adwa is limited, basic food items are accessible, although there are restrictions on food importation.
