In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. In doing so, UN Member States took an historic step in accelerating the Organization’s goals on gender equality and the empowerment of women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system, which focused exclusively on gender equality and women’s empowerment:

The main roles of UN Women are:

Job Overview: The Area Field Associate position is crucial for the implementation of UN Women’s programs at the field level, specifically focusing on the Oasis program, which aims to empower vulnerable women through increased access to economic opportunities and community engagement. The Area Field Associate will manage activities in 3 to 4 centers in middle Jordan, coordinating with local partners, NGOs, and government entities to ensure effective program delivery. This role requires regular travel within the designated area and involves direct supervision from the Field Officer. The associate will be responsible for conducting needs assessments, providing capacity building for center managers, and overseeing the implementation of women's economic empowerment activities. The position also entails organizing meetings, events, and training sessions, as well as contributing to communication materials and program monitoring and evaluation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Programme Implementation: Coordinate and support the implementation of program activities in target locations, working closely with NGOs, CBOs, and MoSD staff. Conduct needs assessments to identify local community needs and tailor center activities accordingly. Oversee the implementation of women's economic empowerment activities and ensure logistical arrangements for program activities.
Coordination: Organize and facilitate meetings and events with local stakeholders, represent the program in coordination meetings, and contribute to communication materials.
Protection Support: Collaborate with the UN Women protection focal point to maintain a referral system in each center, oversee protection-related awareness sessions, and engage men and boys in promoting women's leadership.
Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as necessary for the efficient functioning of the office and organization.
Required Qualifications: Completion of secondary education is required, with a Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or related fields being desirable. The candidate must possess strong coordination skills with government entities, NGOs, and CBOs, and have experience in organizing trainings and community engagement activities. Demonstrated ability to manage protection referral systems and deliver GBV awareness sessions is also required.
Educational Background: The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of secondary education. A Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or a related field is preferred, indicating a higher level of understanding and knowledge relevant to the role.
Experience: Candidates must have at least 7 years of experience in implementing field-level programs focused on gender equality, women's empowerment, and protection, ideally within humanitarian or development settings. Strong coordination skills with government entities, NGOs, and CBOs are essential, along with experience in managing protection referral systems and engaging communities in awareness-raising activities.
Languages: Fluency in Arabic and English is required for this position, ensuring effective communication with local partners and stakeholders.
