Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
Enabling Rural Opportunity Network (ERONet) is a women-centered, community-based organization that was formerly known as Agoro Community Development Association (ACDA). Established to empower rural women, youth, and smallholder farmers, ERONet operates primarily in the Acholi sub-region of Northern Uganda. The organization focuses on various programs aimed at improving education, livelihoods, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food security, health, and disaster resilience. ERONet's mission is to enhance food security and improve nutritional outcomes for rural households by increasing agricultural productivity, promoting dietary diversity, and strengthening community-based resilience. The organization collaborates with local women’s groups to promote sustainable practices such as agroforestry, permaculture, climate-smart agriculture, and small-scale agribusiness development, thereby fostering sustainable livelihoods in the region.

Job Overview:
The online volunteer position is designed to support ERONet’s Livelihood and Food Security team by providing essential expertise in proposal development, donor mapping, and project design. The volunteer will work closely with ERONet’s director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Executive Director and program staff to translate strategic priorities into well-structured funding proposals that align with donor priorities. This role is crucial as it directly contributes to the organization's goal of mobilizing resources to expand community-based agricultural training, nutrition education, and women-led agribusiness programs. The volunteer will play a pivotal role in helping rural women farmers transition from subsistence farming to diversified, income-generating livelihoods through sustainable production systems such as permaculture, apiculture, aquaculture, and agroforestry. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to sustainable development efforts that directly benefit rural women and their communities in Northern Uganda.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The key responsibilities of the online volunteer include researching and identifying funding opportunities related to agriculture, food security, women’s economic empowerment, and climate resilience. The volunteer will develop and edit concept notes, proposals, and donor briefs for ERONet’s Livelihood, Food Security, and Nutrition (LFSN) programs. Additionally, the volunteer will provide technical input on project design, including logical frameworks, results-based indicators, and sustainability strategies. The role also involves refining narratives on gender equality, inclusion, and climate adaptation in agriculture. Collaboration with ERONet’s team is essential to ensure alignment with community needs and the strategic plan for 2026–203
  • Furthermore, the volunteer will provide strategic guidance on building partnerships with development agencies, philanthropic organizations, and agribusiness initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this position should possess strong skills in proposal writing and project design, with a solid understanding of the agricultural sector, food security, and women’s economic empowerment. Experience in donor mapping and knowledge of funding opportunities in the context of climate resilience is highly desirable. The candidate should also demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work collaboratively in a remote team environment. A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to gender equality and sustainable development are essential.

Educational Background:
Candidates should ideally have a background in international development, agriculture, social sciences, or a related field. A degree or equivalent experience in these areas will be beneficial for understanding the complexities of rural development and food security issues.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have prior experience in proposal development, project management, or related fields. Experience working with NGOs or community-based organizations, particularly in the context of rural development and women's empowerment, will be an advantage. Familiarity with the challenges faced by communities in Northern Uganda, especially regarding food security and climate change, is also important.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all communications and documentation will be conducted in English. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Northern Uganda would be considered a valuable asset, enhancing the volunteer's ability to engage with community members and stakeholders effectively.

This is a volunteer position, and while it may not offer financial compensation, it provides an invaluable opportunity to gain experience in the field of international development and contribute to meaningful change in rural communities. The role is remote, allowing flexibility in working hours, but the volunteer is expected to maintain regular communication with the ERONet team.
