Job Posting Organization:

The UN Country Team in China consists of various UN entities working together to enhance the effectiveness of operational activities at the country level.

Job Overview:
The Partnership and Protocol Intern will play a crucial role in supporting the UN Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO) in China. This position is designed for individuals who are eager to gain hands-on experience in international development and public-private partnerships. The intern will work under the supervision of the UN Partnership and Financing Officer, contributing to the development of partnerships that are essential for the implementation of the next Cooperation Framework. The internship is full-time and unpaid, lasting for six months, with a commitment of five days a week and eight hours per day. The intern will be involved in various activities, including organizing major events, preparing briefing materials, and supporting high-level meetings, thereby gaining valuable insights into the workings of the UN and its collaboration with the Chinese government.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's responsibilities will include supporting the organization of major events for the RCO, which involves logistics support and drafting briefing documents and speeches. The intern will also compile and prepare briefing and presentation materials, as well as background information on China's key policies and developments. Additionally, the intern will assist in organizing and following up on inter-agency and high-level meetings attended by the Resident Coordinator or RCO staff members. Providing logistical and substantive support to incoming high-level UN delegations will also be part of the intern's duties, ensuring that all necessary arrangements are made for successful engagements.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in international development studies, economics, political sciences, or related fields; or (b) have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent) in the same fields. Proficiency in office software packages and web-based management systems is essential. Good graphic design skills are advantageous, as is familiarity with the Government of China and international development agencies. Experience in event management and coordination, particularly involving multiple stakeholders, is also beneficial. Previous experience with UN agencies, international organizations, or non-governmental organizations will be considered an asset.

Educational Background:
Candidates should possess a graduate degree or be in the final stages of their undergraduate studies in fields related to international development, economics, or political sciences. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of international relations and development work, particularly in the context of the UN's mission and objectives.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have relevant academic experience, either through their studies or previous internships. While specific professional experience is not mandatory, any exposure to international organizations, particularly the UN, will be viewed favorably. The intern should demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic environment, showcasing their ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.

Languages:
For national candidates, fluency in both written and spoken English and Chinese is mandatory. For international candidates, fluency in written and spoken English is essential, while proficiency in any other UN language will be considered an asset. This linguistic capability is vital for effective communication within the UN system and with various stakeholders in China.

Interns are not financially compensated by the United Nations, and they are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses.
