Job Overview: The Intern position at UNDP involves providing effective support to the Ecosystem and Biodiversity (EBD) Portfolio under the guidance of the Programme & Risk ManagementAnalyst. The intern will engage in various tasks that enhance their understanding of project management, including financial management, project documentation, logistics, and administration. The role also includes supporting quality assurance, monitoring and evaluation (M&E), and risk management of projects within the EBD portfolio. Interns will have opportunities to learn about UNDP's role in biodiversity conservation, including wildlife protection, protected areas, marine conservation, and more. This position is designed to help interns develop skills in strategic planning, research, technical documentation, and partnership engagement, with potential field visits and stakeholder engagement activities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Supporting the financial and operational management of the EBD Portfolio through the Quantum system or UNALL platform. This includes recruitment of consultants, monitoring milestone deliverables, raising payment requests, facilitating travel processes, and tracking payment progress.
Assisting in quality assurance, M&E, and risk management by monitoring project risk statuses, collecting and reviewing Project Progress Reports, and maintaining communication with implementing partners and consultants.
Supporting the formulation of pipeline projects and outreach initiatives, including assisting in project formulation, translating documents, and identifying partnerships with the private sector and civil society.
Helping with logistical arrangements for meetings, providing translation, and taking meeting minutes.
Providing additional support as necessary to ensure the smooth operation of the EBD Portfolio.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in fields such as English, Finance Management, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related areas. Previous intern experience in other organizations or UN agencies is preferred. The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong communication skills, both oral and written, and have the ability to build partnerships with various stakeholders. Multitasking abilities and proficiency in professional office software, particularly Microsoft Office, are also essential.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as English, Finance Management, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related disciplines is required for this internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position. This educational background will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of biodiversity and ecosystem management.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have some level of internship experience, preferably within other organizations or UN agencies. Languages: Proficiency in both Chinese and English is mandatory for this position. Candidates should possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders. Good negotiation skills and the ability to resolve conflicts are also important for successful partnership building.
Additional Notes: This internship is a full-time office-based position, requiring the selected candidate to work at the UNDP Office for no less than four days per week. Interns must provide proof of enrollment in a health insurance plan and a medical certificate of good health before starting the internship. The stipend will be paid monthly, and interns are entitled to 1.5 days of leave per month. It is the responsibility of the intern to obtain necessary visas and arrange travel to and from the duty station. Costs related to travel, visas, accommodations, and living expenses are also the responsibility of the intern or their nominating institution. Interns are not considered staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.
