Job Overview:
The position of Extended Term Consultant is primarily focused on supporting the operationalization of the China-WBG Global Center for Ecological Systems and Transitions (GKC). This role is crucial for developing key documents, organizing events, producing knowledge products, and mobilizing a network of stakeholders and partners. The consultant will be instrumental in enhancing the visibility and impact of the GKC during its second year of operation, ensuring that the center meets its objectives and long-term goals. The consultant will engage in drafting foundational documents, preparing concept notes, and supporting the preparation of project proposals and funding strategies to secure resources for the center's sustainability. Additionally, the consultant will coordinate learning events and workshops aimed at promoting ecosystem restoration initiatives and fostering collaboration among stakeholders, while also supporting the implementation of the GKC communication strategy across various platforms.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Extended Term Consultant will be responsible for a variety of tasks including:
  • Development of Key Documents: Drafting foundational documents such as work program drafts, implementation toolkits, and internal handbooks to strengthen the GKC’s operations. Preparing concept notes that define the direction and expected outcomes of planned knowledge products or events. Creating policy briefs, position papers, case studies, and best practices to guide stakeholder engagement. Supporting the preparation of project proposals and funding strategies to secure resources for the center’s long-term sustainability.
  • Organizing Events and Study Tours: Planning and coordinating learning events, workshops, webinars, and conferences aimed at promoting ecosystem restoration initiatives. Ensuring effective logistical arrangements for events, including venue selection, participant invitations, agenda setting, and coordination of speakers.
  • Communications: Supporting the implementation of the GKC communication strategy across digital and physical platforms. Designing and overseeing the creation of multimedia content to enhance engagement with GKC outputs. Documenting and disseminating outcomes of GKC events through summaries and reports.
  • Network Mobilization and Stakeholder Engagement: Identifying and engaging key stakeholders, including government agencies, academic institutions, NGOs, and private sector partners. Developing and implementing a stakeholder engagement strategy to ensure sustained participation and contribution.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess a Master’s degree in environmental science, environmental economics, sustainable development, public policy, or a related field. They should have at least two years of proven experience in natural resources management, environmental management, and private sector engagement, with a strong understanding of ecosystem restoration issues both in China and globally. The candidate should also have experience in establishing and managing international initiatives, with a successful track record of project implementation and stakeholder engagement. Additionally, they should have experience in producing research or policy-oriented knowledge products, demonstrating the ability to deliver high-quality outputs. Strong strategic thinking skills and the ability to organize events and multitask are essential, along with excellent communication and networking skills.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree in a relevant field such as environmental science, environmental economics, sustainable development, or public policy is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of ecosystem restoration and environmental management.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least two years of relevant experience in natural resources management and environmental management. Experience in private sector engagement and a strong understanding of ecosystem restoration issues in both China and globally are essential. Proven experience in managing international initiatives and successful project implementation is also required.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Chinese (both written and spoken) is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication and stakeholder engagement within the context of the GKC's operations.

Additional Notes:
The position is a one-year appointment, renewable at the discretion of the World Bank Group, with a lifetime maximum of three years for Extended Term appointments.
