Job Overview:
The position of Online Volunteer for Technical Testing of Courses is crucial for the Staff Development & Learning (SDL) team at IOM. The SDL team has seen a significant increase in requests for publishing courses into the Learning Management System (LMS), particularly since 2020 when they tested 268 modules. The main objective of this role is to support the SDL team by conducting technical testing of online courses before they are published. This includes ensuring that all technical functions of the courses are operational, such as hyperlinks, buttons, course progress status, and multimedia elements like animations and voice-overs. The Online Volunteer will be responsible for testing approximately 20 course modules per month, ensuring compliance with SDL's technical guidelines and quality assurance checklist. The role requires effective communication and coordination with the SDL focal point, as well as participation in regular meetings to discuss progress and any issues encountered during testing.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Online Volunteer will be tasked with the following duties and responsibilities:
  • Conduct quality screening and technical testing of online courses, ensuring that all technical aspects function correctly before publishing.
  • Test various elements of the courses, including volume controls, hyperlinks, buttons, course progress indicators, course maps, activities, animations, videos, voice-overs, subtitles, and transcripts.
  • Deliver detailed reports after each round of testing, documenting findings and any issues that arise.
  • Coordinate results with the SDL focal point through email, chat, and video calls.
  • Attend weekly meetings with the SDL focal point to discuss updates and challenges.
  • Participate in bi-weekly unit or division-wide meetings to provide updates to a larger audience.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this position should possess the following qualifications:
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to testing and quality assurance.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and online course delivery.
  • Basic technical skills to navigate and test online course functionalities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively report findings and collaborate with team members.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet testing deadlines.
