Job Overview: The WASH Assistant - Hygiene Promotion position is designed to support the scale-up of public health promotion components of WASH activities in FHI 360's implementation areas in the Tigray Region. Reporting to the Senior WASH Officer, the WASH Assistant will play a crucial role in providing technical guidance to various stakeholders including volunteers, contractors, and partners at the field level. The position requires adherence to international standards and Ministry of Health guidelines in the implementation of public health promotion components. The WASH Assistant will also be involved in planning, training, and coordination efforts to ensure effective delivery of WASH services and public health promotion campaigns.
Duties and Responsibilities: The WASH Assistant will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities including supporting the WASH officer in establishing relationships with government offices and implementing partners, participating in planning and procedural compliance, facilitating technical training related to public health promotion approaches, and supporting various surveys. The role also involves coordinating with field assistants and partners for the implementation of WASH kits, managing hygiene promotion for health facilities, reviewing IEC materials, organizing public health campaigns, and representing FHI 360 at WASH platforms. Additionally, the WASH Assistant will supervise field staff, support report drafting, identify infrastructural issues, and assist in preparing procurement and spending plans for WASH activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess at least 2-3 years of relevant work experience in an NGO setting, particularly in primary health care, nutrition, WASH, or humanitarian projects. Hands-on experience in designing and managing WASH programs with a focus on public health promotion is essential. Familiarity with conducting needs assessments and a solid understanding of the socio-economic and political context in Oromia are also required. Experience in stakeholder engagement and a willingness to travel frequently are important attributes for this role.
