Job Overview: The GBV Communications Consultant will be responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies that effectively convey the objectives and activities of the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) program within the Accelerator Lab framework. This role requires a deep understanding of GBV issues and the ability to communicate complex information in a clear and engaging manner. The consultant will work closely with various stakeholders, including local communities, government agencies, and international partners, to ensure that the messaging is culturally sensitive and impactful. The consultant will also be expected to produce high-quality written materials, including reports, press releases, and social media content, to promote the program's initiatives and successes. Additionally, the consultant will engage in capacity-building activities to enhance the communication skills of local partners and stakeholders, ensuring sustainability beyond the consultancy period.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be tasked with the following duties and responsibilities:
Develop a comprehensive communication strategy for the GBV program that aligns with UNDP's overall objectives and the specific goals of the Accelerator Lab.
Create engaging content for various platforms, including social media, newsletters, and official reports, to raise awareness about GBV issues and promote the program's activities.
Collaborate with local stakeholders to gather stories and testimonials that highlight the impact of the GBV program on the community.
Organize and facilitate workshops and training sessions for local partners to enhance their communication skills related to GBV advocacy.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communication efforts and adjust strategies as necessary to improve outreach and engagement.
Provide regular updates and reports to UNDP management on the progress of communication initiatives and their impact on the program's objectives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in communications, public relations, or a related field. A proven track record of developing and implementing successful communication strategies, particularly in the context of social issues such as gender-based violence, is essential. The consultant should have excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to produce high-quality content for diverse audiences. Familiarity with digital communication tools and platforms is also required, along with experience in stakeholder engagement and capacity building.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, social sciences, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may be considered an asset. Additional certifications in communication or gender studies would be advantageous.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in communications, with a focus on social issues, advocacy, or gender-based violence. Experience working with international organizations, NGOs, or government agencies is highly desirable. The consultant should demonstrate a strong understanding of the socio-cultural context of Guinea-Bissau and have experience working in similar environments.
Languages: Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory, as it is the official language of Guinea-Bissau. Proficiency in English is also required, as it is the working language of UNDP. Knowledge of local languages would be considered an asset and beneficial for community engagement.
Additional Notes: This consultancy is for a fixed period of 45 working days over 2 months. The position is classified as an individual contractor role, and the consultant will be expected to work remotely with occasional travel to Bissau as necessary. The contract will be full-time, and compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The consultant will be required to submit proposals through the UNDP supplier portal, and any inquiries regarding the tender must be submitted in writing through the portal's messaging functionality.
