Job Overview: The (Associate) Art Collection Curator position at the EIB is a full-time role based in Luxembourg, where the successful candidate will manage and develop the EIB's art collection. This role is integral to aligning the collection with the bank's strategic priorities, which include supporting contemporary European artists, promoting young talent, and reflecting the institution's commitment to sustainability and social progress. The curator will work closely with the head of Asset and Property Management and will be responsible for the artistic vision and curatorial strategy of the collection. This includes overseeing the accessioning and deaccessioning processes, engaging with artists, curating exhibitions, and providing expert advice to the Art Committee. The position requires a high level of expertise in contemporary European art and the ability to balance artistic integrity with institutional goals.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the (Associate) Art Collection Curator include:
Developing and implementing the artistic vision and curatorial strategy for the EIB's art collection, ensuring alignment with the bank's priorities.
Leading the strategic accessioning and deaccessioning process based on artistic value and institutional relevance.
Engaging with contemporary European artists and emerging talent to identify and support promising works.
Curating exhibitions and interpretive programs that communicate the collection's themes of sustainability, innovation, and social progress.
Providing expert advice and recommendations to the Art Committee on art acquisitions, deaccessions, and artist collaborations.
Collaborating with the Artwork Collection Manager to ensure effective implementation of curatorial decisions.
Representing the bank's art collection externally and liaising with artists, galleries, and cultural institutions to promote the collection's profile.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree (minimum equivalent to a Bachelor) preferably in Art History, Museum Studies, Curatorial Studies, or a related field. They should have a minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in curating, managing, or developing contemporary art collections, ideally within a corporate, institutional, or museum environment. A proven track record in strategic accessioning and deaccessioning of artworks aligned with institutional goals is essential. Experience in engaging with contemporary European artists and managing artist relationships is also required. Candidates should demonstrate experience in organizing exhibitions, educational programs, or public engagement initiatives, along with deep knowledge of contemporary European art movements and trends.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in a relevant field such as Art History, Museum Studies, or Curatorial Studies. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of art curation and collection management, as well as the historical and cultural contexts of contemporary art.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience. This experience should ideally include curating, managing, or developing contemporary art collections, with a preference for candidates who have worked within corporate, institutional, or museum environments. A strong background in strategic accessioning and deaccessioning of artworks is also necessary, as well as experience in engaging with contemporary European artists.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory, and a good command of French is also required, as both languages are official working languages of the EIB. Knowledge of other EU languages would be considered an advantage. Proficiency is understood to mean the attainment of level 5 of the Inter Institutional language courses, corresponding to B1.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).
