Job Overview: The Knowledge Management Officer position at UNICEF India is pivotal in supporting the organization's commitment to evidence-based programming and policy formulation. The role involves managing and enhancing internal knowledge management systems and processes, creating tools for knowledge dissemination, and fostering a culture of learning within the organization. The officer will work closely with various program sections and field offices to align their knowledge management action plans with UNICEF's broader strategies. This position is essential for ensuring that UNICEF India effectively utilizes robust knowledge to inform its programming goals and improve outcomes for children. The officer will also engage with external expertise to further develop the KM strategy, ensuring that UNICEF remains a credible knowledge broker on child rights in India. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying knowledge management needs and challenges, facilitating knowledge exchange, and organizing key events that promote learning and collaboration.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Knowledge Management Officer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: supporting program sections and field offices in developing and tracking their Knowledge Management action plans; updating and strengthening the use of ECM sites in coordination with the digital impact team; developing guidance, tools, and templates for internal learning and sharing exercises; operationalizing knowledge platforms like Knowledge@UNICEF; planning and coordinating the annual ‘Roundtable on Evidence for Children’ initiative; diagnosing key knowledge management needs and challenges; convening the internal KM Network and organizing quarterly meetings; and organizing UNICEF India’s annual ‘Learning from Failure’ Festival. The officer will also be expected to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment, promoting voluntary action through community engagement and contributing to UNV publications and activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Knowledge Management Officer position should possess strong technical capabilities relevant to UNICEF's procedures and rules. They should demonstrate discretion, political sensitivity, and the ability to liaise with various stakeholders, particularly in senior positions. A high degree of autonomy, personal initiative, and resourcefulness are essential, along with the ability to manage information objectively and confidentially. The ideal candidate should also exhibit excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment, and a commitment to gender equality and diversity.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as social sciences, information management, or a related discipline is required. A master's degree would be an advantage. Candidates should have a strong understanding of knowledge management principles and practices, as well as familiarity with evidence generation and policy advocacy related to children's rights.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant professional experience in knowledge management, information management, or a related field. Experience working in the UN system or with international organizations is highly desirable. Candidates should have a proven track record of successfully managing knowledge management initiatives and facilitating learning and knowledge sharing within organizations.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both spoken and written. Knowledge of Hindi or other local languages would be an asset, as it would facilitate communication and engagement with local stakeholders and communities.
Additional Notes: This is a national UN Volunteer assignment based in New Delhi, India. The contract duration is subject to availability of funding, operational necessity, and satisfactory performance, with no expectation of renewal. The position offers a monthly Voluntary Living Allowance (VLA) of INR 64,961.50, along with a one-time entry lump sum payment of USD 400 and relocation costs if applicable. Comprehensive health, life, and disability insurance are provided, along with annual leave of 2.5 days per month. The role requires cultural sensitivity and the ability to adapt to the local environment, as well as a commitment to the principles of voluntary engagement.
