Job Overview:
The position involves coordinating and facilitating the pre-workshop planning and design process for the integration of the PETALS Framework into teacher training and pedagogy in the Pacific region. The consultant will work closely with various partners, including UNESCO, PacREF, UNICEF, and other stakeholders, to ensure that the workshop aligns with regional priorities and educational systems. The role requires the consultant to organize consultations, draft workshop agendas, and consolidate inputs from partners to create a cohesive and effective workshop experience. The consultant will also lead the PETALS Integration Workshop, focusing on developing actionable strategies for integrating PETALS into teacher education and pedagogical practices that align with climate education and sustainable development. This position is crucial for enhancing the quality of education in the Pacific region by promoting culturally grounded competencies and addressing the needs of learners.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for several key tasks, including:
  • Preparatory Phase: Coordinating with UNESCO and various partners to develop the workshop framework, objectives, and agenda. This includes liaising with presenters, preparing session materials, and supporting logistical arrangements.
  • Workshop Implementation: Serving as the lead facilitator during the workshop, guiding sessions on PETALS and pedagogy, and promoting collaboration among participants. The consultant will lead group discussions to contextualize PETALS within pre- and in-service education and facilitate the drafting of national and regional strategies.
  • Post-Workshop Reporting and Follow-Up: Consolidating outcomes and recommendations from the workshop, preparing a final report summarizing proceedings and strategies, and ensuring ongoing coordination among stakeholders. The consultant will also be responsible for delivering specific outputs within set timelines, including stakeholder engagement plans, summaries of consultation meetings, and resource mapping briefs.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Education, Teacher Training, Curriculum Development, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of ten years of professional experience in teacher education, pedagogy, curriculum reform, or capacity development in the Pacific is required. The consultant should have demonstrated experience in designing and facilitating regional or national education workshops, along with strong coordination, stakeholder engagement, and reporting skills. Excellent spoken and written English is mandatory, and knowledge of one of the local languages is desirable. Familiarity with the PETALS Framework, PacREF, and CSESI, as well as experience working with UNESCO or other UN agencies, is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
The position requires an advanced university degree in a relevant field such as Education, Teacher Training, or Curriculum Development. This educational background is essential to ensure that the consultant has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively coordinate and facilitate the workshop and support the integration of the PETALS Framework into educational practices.

The consultant should have a minimum of ten years of professional experience in areas related to teacher education, pedagogy, and curriculum reform, particularly within the Pacific region. Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within UNESCO and among the stakeholders involved in the workshop. Additionally, knowledge of one of the local languages in the Pacific region is desirable, as it can enhance communication and engagement with local partners and participants.
