Job Overview: The Senior Investment Officer will play a crucial role within the IFC Equity Mobilization Department (AMC), which is part of the Treasury & Syndications Vice President Unit (VPU). This department is responsible for mobilizing and managing capital for private equity investments in emerging markets. The successful candidate will be expected to manage existing portfolios, actively participate in new fund sourcing and development, and contribute significantly to AMC's vision of being a leader in equity mobilization for impact investing. The role involves building and maintaining strong relationships with investors, leading fundraising efforts for various funds, and collaborating with internal teams to enhance the impact of investments. The Investment Officer will also be responsible for developing innovative strategies that align with both IFC's strategic priorities and the interests of investors, thereby expanding the supply of long-term capital to emerging markets.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Senior Investment Officer include:
Equity Mobilization: Contributing to AMC’s vision by building and maintaining relationships with existing and potential investors, leading fundraising efforts for the Emerging Markets Sustainability Fund (EMSF), and collaborating with teams to roll out the Equity Co-Investment platform.
Fundraising: Leading fundraising efforts for new AMC funds and Separately Managed Accounts (SMAs), including identifying relevant themes, creating pitch materials, and managing investor presentations.
Portfolio Management: Proactively managing existing equity portfolios, providing operational value-add and strategic guidance, designing exit strategies, and serving as a Board observer or member for selected investee companies.
Team Contribution: Cultivating a high-performance team culture, leveraging team expertise, and collaborating with IFC counterparts on AMC business aspects.
Reporting: Leading the generation of high-quality materials for quarterly and annual fund reporting.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for the Senior Investment Officer position must possess a Master of Business Administration (MBA) or an equivalent advanced degree, along with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in investment banking, private equity, or a financial institution focused on principal investments. The candidate should have a proven track record of sourcing, structuring, and closing equity investments, particularly in emerging markets, and strong experience in managing complex equity projects. Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate expertise in transaction structuring, valuation, financial modeling, risk mitigation, and return optimization, along with extensive relationship management experience with stakeholders.
Educational Background: Candidates must hold a Master of Business Administration (MBA) or an equivalent advanced degree. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of investment banking and private equity, as well as for effectively managing portfolios and engaging with investors.
Experience: A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience is required for this position. Candidates should have substantial experience in investment banking, private equity, or financial institutions that focus on principal investments. Proven experience in managing senior Limited Partner relationships and serving on Boards of Directors or as a Board Observer is also preferred.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, proficiency in other languages such as French, Spanish, Portuguese, or Chinese is considered a valuable asset and is preferred, as it can enhance communication with a diverse range of stakeholders.
