Job Overview: The Operating Engineer position is a vital role within the Global Corporate Solutions and Corporate Real Estate division of the World Bank. Reporting directly to the Engineering Supervisor, this position is responsible for overseeing the operations and maintenance of Bank-owned buildings in Washington, DC. The role includes managing HVAC systems, chillers, boilers, plumbing, and fire suppression systems, ensuring that these systems operate efficiently and effectively. The Operating Engineer will provide guidance to staff and contractors, ensuring that all operations align with the World Bank Group's mission to create a world free of poverty on a livable planet. Duties and Responsibilities: The Operating Engineer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
Overseeing the operation and maintenance of HVAC systems, chillers, boilers, and associated equipment during scheduled shifts, ensuring uninterrupted service.
Responding to service requests and emergencies related to plant operations, including equipment failures and environmental hazards.
Diagnosing malfunctions in HVAC systems, steam systems, electrical controls, and plumbing systems, and implementing effective solutions.
Conducting preventive maintenance and repairs on HVAC systems, ensuring they meet operational standards.
Providing mentorship and guidance to less experienced staff and contractors, fostering a collaborative work environment.
Leading after-hours plant operations and monitoring building automation systems as required.
Offering technical support to project managers and contractors for ongoing and future projects, ensuring alignment with operational goals.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in plant operations and maintenance. A current 3rd Class DC, NIULPE, or 3rd Class MD steam/stationary engineer license is required, along with a current Universal CFC recovery certificate or equivalent. Multi-trade experience in building trades, including operations, maintenance, installation, and alteration of plant operating equipment, is essential. Candidates should have a thorough understanding of commercial HVAC systems, including troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair capabilities. Proficiency in Building Automation Systems (BAS), particularly Siemens Systems, is preferred. Strong customer service skills and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment are also necessary.
