Job Overview: The Migration, Business and Human Rights Project Coordinator will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing strategic plans for IOM Malaysia's engagement with various stakeholders, including government entities, civil society organizations, and the private sector. The successful candidate will lead a team responsible for executing activities aimed at addressing migration issues, business practices, and human rights concerns. This position requires a proactive approach to outreach and engagement, ensuring that all logistical and administrative arrangements are in place for successful project implementation. The coordinator will also be responsible for designing and facilitating training programs that educate stakeholders on reducing the risks of migrant trafficking and exploitation within their operations and supply chains. The role demands a strong understanding of corporate responsibility, modern slavery, and the intersection of migration and human rights, as well as the ability to foster partnerships and collaborations across sectors.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead discussions and negotiations with private sector, public sector, and civil society partners on corporate responsibility and modern slavery in supply chains.
Form partnerships with public and private sectors, including developing Memoranda of Understanding to support MBHR project goals.
Participate in private sector working groups focused on corporate responsibility and irregular migration.
Monitor progress of MBHR projects, preparing work plans, budgets, and reports for clarity and consistency.
Design relevant research activities on migration, environment, and climate change.
Develop communications and promotional materials aligned with IOM's communication strategies.
Design and conduct training courses on corporate responsibility and modern slavery, assessing their effectiveness and reporting on outcomes.
Provide technical support to various teams and perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess significant experience in liaising with the private sector, governmental authorities, and international institutions. Proven networking skills are essential, along with experience in developing and implementing labor migration programs, corporate sustainability, and compliance initiatives. Candidates should also have experience in legal investigations, access to justice, program management, and training facilitation. Strong coordination, negotiation, and communication skills are required, along with proficiency in MS Office applications.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree from an accredited institution in law, social sciences, economics, or other relevant disciplines is required. Alternatively, a university degree with a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience may be considered.
Experience: Candidates should have substantial experience working with private sector entities, government authorities, and international organizations. Experience in labor migration, corporate sustainability, and program management is crucial. Candidates should also have a background in training facilitation and innovative training approaches, particularly for diverse groups and senior executives.
Languages: Fluency in English and Bahasa Malaysia is mandatory. Proficiency in additional languages such as French or Spanish is considered an asset and will be evaluated during the selection process.
Additional Notes: The position is subject to funding confirmation, and the selection process may be used to fill similar roles in various locations. Recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in similar positions for 24 months. National Professional Officers must be nationals of the country of employment and are expected to meet the same recruitment standards as International Professional staff. The appointment is contingent upon medical fitness certification and necessary government verifications. IOM maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding misconduct and does not charge any fees during the recruitment process.
