Job Overview: The internship-programme" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Internship Programme at IOM aims to attract talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in areas relevant to IOM's programs and activities. Interns are expected to be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience. The program is designed to provide interns with hands-on experience in an international multicultural environment, allowing them to gain insights into IOM's work in migration and sustainable development. Interns will assist in various aspects of project implementation, particularly focusing on the Environmental Peacebuilding project, 'Forging a Greener Peace in the Hirshabelle State of Somalia.' This role involves drafting activity proposals, supporting procurement processes, reporting, and liaising with relevant units within IOM.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for assisting in drafting activity proposals for the Environmental Peacebuilding project, identifying target locations and communities for project activities, and drafting interim narrative reports for the project donor. They will also assist in creating and monitoring Purchase Requisition forms for procurement, extract learnings and case studies for communications products, and support the field teams in implementing activities. Additionally, the intern will liaise with relevant units in IOM, coordinate with the project's implementing partner, and assist in monitoring instalments and administrative tasks related to the partner. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be between 20 and 36 years old, enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or have graduated in the last 12 months. They should have a specific interest in IOM's programs and activities, and ideally hold a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations or be sponsored by governmental/non-governmental institutions. Experience working on environmental projects, operational activities in humanitarian and development sectors, and familiarity with the region are advantageous.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Political or Social Science, International Relations, International Development, Environmental Studies, Environmental Sustainability, or a related field from an accredited academic institution is required for this position.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have less than two years of relevant working experience. Experience working on environmental projects and in operational activities within both humanitarian and development sectors is considered an advantage. Additionally, work experience in the region is beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is required, both oral and written. A working knowledge of Somali is considered an advantage. IOM's official languages include English, French, and Spanish, and proficiency in these languages may be evaluated during the selection process.
Additional Notes: The internship is subject to funding confirmation and the candidate's medical fitness for appointment. Interns may receive a small monthly stipend to help offset costs, but those receiving financial remuneration or credits from their university or sponsoring body are not eligible for this stipend. IOM provides coverage against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan, but interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accidents or illnesses. IOM has a zero-tolerance policy on conduct incompatible with the aims and objectives of the United Nations and IOM, including discrimination and harassment.
