Founded in 1961 and assisting 80 million people in around 80 countries each year, the World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization fighting hunger worldwide, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience.
WFP’s efforts focus on emergency assistance, relief and rehabilitation, development aid and special operations. Two-thirds of its work is in conflict-affected countries where people are three times more likely to be undernourished than those living in countries without conflict.

The Nutrition Officer position at the United Nations World Food Programme in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is crucial for providing technical support to nutrition activities in the Grand Kasai region. This area is facing significant food insecurity and malnutrition, with alarming statistics indicating that 22.3% of the population is under IPC 3, and malnutrition rates are critically high. The officer will work closely with various stakeholders, including the Ministry of Public Health, UNICEF, and local NGOs, to design and implement nutrition interventions that address both immediate needs and root causes of malnutrition. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Nutrition Officer will be responsible for a range of duties including: developing nutrition projects and activities that align with WFP policies; providing project management support for specific nutrition initiatives; coordinating data gathering and monitoring systems to maintain quality standards; analyzing data for reporting purposes; liaising with implementing partners to ensure project efficiency; identifying potential partners for collaboration; supporting capacity building for WFP staff and partners; guiding junior staff in complex analyses; and acting in emergency response capacities as needed. The role requires a proactive approach to ensure that nutrition needs are met effectively and efficiently.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Nutrition Officer position should possess strong project management skills, excellent analytical abilities, and a deep understanding of nutrition policies and practices. They should be capable of working collaboratively with various stakeholders and have experience in capacity building and training. Educational Background:
A degree in nutrition, public health, or a related field is required for this position. The living conditions in Kananga are relatively stable, with access to basic amenities, although travel can be complicated due to road conditions.
