Job Overview:
The director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director (CD) for Mercy Corps Sudan is a visionary leader responsible for overseeing all programming and operations within the country. This role requires innovative thinking and resourcefulness to develop impactful programs that address the needs of vulnerable populations affected by conflict. The CD will manage a diverse portfolio of programs, ensuring they are accountable to both participants and donors. The position emphasizes the importance of strategic planning, partnership building, and the integration of innovative solutions to enhance program effectiveness. The CD will also be responsible for aligning the country strategy with Mercy Corps' Global Pathway to Possibility, ensuring that all initiatives are locally-led, climate-smart, and inclusive.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Country Director will be responsible for formulating and communicating a clear vision for program goals and strategies, leading the country strategy process, and developing annual implementation plans. The CD will engage with local authorities, stakeholders, and donors to secure resources for high-impact programs. They will oversee program quality and impact, ensuring compliance with Mercy Corps and donor policies. The CD will manage a cohesive team, fostering a culture of trust and collaboration, and will be accountable for the safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security of the team and assets. Additionally, the CD will represent Mercy Corps in national and international forums, influencing development priorities and building partnerships with key stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a BA/S or equivalent in a relevant field, with an MA/S preferred. A minimum of 7-10 years of field experience in international relief and development programs is required, including significant experience managing large, complex programs. Candidates should have at least 5 years of senior-level leadership experience, with a proven ability to respond to emergencies and manage diverse teams. Knowledge of Sphere standards and experience with institutional donor grant management are preferred. Strong negotiation, communication, and organizational skills are essential, along with excellent oral and written English skills; proficiency in Arabic is a plus.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a BA/S in a relevant field, with a preference for candidates holding an MA/S. The role demands a strong understanding of international development principles and practices, as well as familiarity with program management standards and methodologies.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 7-10 years of relevant field experience in international relief and development, with a focus on managing complex programs. Candidates should have at least 5 years of senior-level leadership experience, demonstrating the ability to build capacity and manage teams effectively in challenging environments. Experience in emergency response and knowledge of relevant standards is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in Arabic is considered a valuable asset, enhancing the ability to engage with local communities and stakeholders effectively.
