Job Description
Job Posting Organization: The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is a prominent global entity dedicated to combating illicit drugs, crime, corruption, and terrorism. Established to enhance international cooperation in criminal matters, UNODC has developed a reputation for its expertise in these critical areas. The organization operates through various regional offices, including the Regional Office for Southeast Asia and the Pacific (ROSEAP), which is based in Bangkok. This office is staffed by a diverse team of regional programme managers, advisors, and administrators who collaborate with Member States and regional organizations to provide technical assistance and advice on issues related to the rule of law, law enforcement, and drug-related health matters. UNODC's presence in Fiji is part of its broader strategy to implement its initiatives closer to the communities that need them, with satellite offices in ten countries across the region.
Job Overview: The UNODC Pacific Office is currently focused on developing a secure and user-friendly web-based reporting interface designed to monitor the implementation of the Teieniwa Vision, which is a regional anti-corruption framework endorsed by leaders of the Pacific Island Forum. This platform is intended for use by UNCAC focal points across 14 Pacific Island Countries, facilitating the reporting of national achievements, challenges, and progress against established targets. The tool aims to enhance transparency, coordination, and evidence-based reporting in preparation for regional and global anti-corruption events, including the UNCAC Conference of States Parties. The Online Volunteer in this role will be integral to the project, working collaboratively with a team to create a system that supports structured data entry, document uploads, visual dashboards, and the generation of both narrative and statistical reports. The platform will be designed to be accessible on both desktop and mobile devices, ensuring usability for all stakeholders involved.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Online Volunteer will be responsible for providing comprehensive coordination and project management support across all volunteers involved in the project. Key responsibilities include:
Developing and maintaining a detailed project timeline that outlines milestones and deliverables, in close collaboration with the Lead Developer and the Head of the UNODC Pacific Office, as well as the Anti-Corruption Programme Officer.
Coordinating weekly check-ins with Online Volunteers to monitor their progress, address any blockers, and ensure that tasks are on track.
Facilitating effective communication between Online Volunteers and UNODC focal points to ensure alignment and clarity on project objectives.
Tracking deliverables to ensure they meet the overall objectives of the platform and are completed on time.
Supporting the integration of various components of the project, including development, dashboards, user experience/user interface (UX/UI), and documentation, into a cohesive final product.
Providing weekly summary reports to UNODC detailing progress, challenges encountered, and proposed next steps to keep all stakeholders informed and engaged.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for this position should possess strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple tasks and manage time effectively. Proficiency in communication, both written and verbal, is essential to facilitate collaboration among team members and stakeholders. Familiarity with web-based reporting tools and project management software is highly desirable. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to the values of transparency, accountability, and integrity, which are central to the mission of UNODC.
Educational Background: A background in project management, international relations, public administration, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have a solid understanding of the principles of project management and experience in coordinating projects, particularly in an international or multi-stakeholder context. Relevant certifications in project management methodologies would be an asset.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have prior experience in project management or coordination roles, ideally within the context of international development or non-profit organizations. Experience working with diverse teams and stakeholders, particularly in a remote or online environment, is highly valued. Familiarity with anti-corruption initiatives or governance frameworks would be beneficial but is not mandatory.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within the UNODC and for this project. Knowledge of additional languages spoken in the Pacific region would be considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance the inclusivity of the project.
Additional Notes: This position is offered as a volunteer opportunity, and as such, it may not provide financial compensation. However, it offers valuable experience in project management within a reputable international organization. The role is expected to be part-time, with flexibility in hours to accommodate the varying schedules of volunteers. The project duration is not specified, but it is anticipated to align with the timeline for the development and implementation of the reporting interface.
